Hello,

Trying to revive an old Cube. After seeing what a cheap CF card can do for a Pismo, I want to put one in my cube.

Alas, all the adapters I can find are for 2.5 IDE drives, which are not pin compatible with the 3.5 IDE drives. When I do find them for 3.5 drives, they're female adapters made for plugging directly into the motherboard. I can't do that with the Cube, so I'm looking for a male 3.5 IDE to CF adapter. Has anyone ever seen/found one?

Oh, and they also have to be "in-line", without the 90* angle found in some of them.

Thanks

Loa

Are you looking for something like this?

If so, newegg has this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822998002) with OS X support, but it doesn't seem to support hot-swapping.

Hello,

No, I'm looking for something that will let me use a CF card as the main drive for the cube. That's what I'm using in the Pismo and that laptop is a lot faster than the cube, even with less RAM.

Hello,

Thanks Mango, but that's only for 2.5" IDE. Contrary to SATA, which we're used to, IDE connections are not the same for 2.5 and 3.5 disks.

Hello,

Good find indeed. At least I know that they exist. On the other hand, at 30$ + shipping + a decent sized CF card, you end up at the cost of a 40GB 3.5 IDE SSD from OWC. The whole point of those CF card adapters is that they're (supposed to be) cheap.

I bought my 2.5 version for 3$ SHIPPED. Ten times more for the 3.5 version seems completely ridiculous, considering that CF to IDE is nothing but a connexion issue; nothing has to be processed.

I'll keep looking for cheaper alternatives, but I may be forced into getting a SSD...

Can you not use a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE convertor chained off the CF adaptor?

I've got a Belkin one in a drawer somewhere which came with a set of drive rails to allow you to fit a 2.5" laptop drive in a desktop PC.

Hello,

Great idea MagicBoy! It should work very well, and as I have an extra 2.5-to-CF lying around, a 4$ adapter to 3.5 should do the trick!

Thanks!
