3.5" SSD formatted via USB, won't mount when added to internal Mac Pro HD Bay

I bought a 3.5" internal SSD drive for a new Mac Pro.
Connected it via an external USB docking station, where it mounted fine.

When I remove it from the docking station and add in to an internal hard drive bay in the mac pro it does not show up in disk utility.

As soon as i put it back in the USB docking bay it re-appears.

How can I get it to show up when IN the mac pro???

the 3.5 inch ssd's don't mount well in the sled bays. if you have a 2010 mac pro I suggest mounting it in the empty docking optical bay. You are not the first person with this problem.

Just do it like you would a second optical drive. The cables in there will provide both data and power for the drive, so you won't need to get anything extra. And you won't really need a physical mount. Since its a desktop you can just let it sit there without any problems.

ignore the info on the dvd pay attention to the info on the cables. I anchored my ssd with velcro.

lowes and home depot have it. less is more. ie 1 piece of velcro is all you need

it fits in the sled.. there are posts about this icy dock claims the four bays inside the mac pro have slightly off sized esata jacks. so if you plug in a ssd or an icy dock converter tray it is as if you did not plug it in. Since icy dock ocz and some intel ssd owners have made this complaint I am think the mac pros may be just a fraction wrong. If you really read tons of threads on this site in the mac pro section you will see this has happened more then once. Not easy to search them out as sometimes it is in one post in a thread that is talking about other stuff.

You don't need a sled. Put it in the lower DVD bay and go from there. There is a power/sata cable waiting with your SSD's name on it...... If it works on that cable, it's the sled, not the SSD.

Connecting it to the 2nd SATA optical drive cable worked. Annoying that it had to be done that way though!

Look on the bright side: That leaves you with another free sled for a data HDD.
