Well, today marks three hundred days since the last iMac/Mac Mini update. I think the only time we've had to wait longer was caused by the redesign and shortage of G5 chips? This better be one hell of an update to justify such a wait. Would anyone be surprised if we go a full year without seeing anything new?

It wouldn't surprise me if they waited on the iMacs for Leopard, which I think would put it a little over a year. the Mac Mini I think will either stay around until it is even more outdated and then be discontinued, or be majorly updated around Leopard.

Aren't the rumours suggesting they will make them even thinner? Can't imagine any hot desktop chips making their way into them if they are.
It could be today. After all the iPhone hype around its release it would be nice if Apple reminded us that they still cared about computers by releasing a new iMac now. Alternatively, I can also see them waiting a week or so to let the iPhone get the spotlight a little longer.
I do think it will be sometime in the next few weeks though. Looks like reseller stock is dropping, so there must be something coming.

I am thinking we may see something on the iMac before the new OS comes out. Long over due. I want to get an iMac, but its hard at the moment knowing that the MBP is a better buy. :s
If they wait until after the "major in mac" promo, they will also miss the back to school crowd that wants to get a new machine. I think they would be missing out on a lot of sales if they wait until after the new school year begins.

I dont think they would need to upgrade the iMac right now. Santa Rosa is not a major upgrade. SR made sense with a laptop but there seems to be know big reason for them to upgrade. I would say they upgrade it when penryn cores come out and they put leopard in it too. The iMacs are good enough right now. Maybe they will drop the prices a bit.

The current iMac is good enough right now, apart from having a dismal Radeon X1600 inside.
I want to ditch my PC at home and buy an iMac I can play PC games on too. At the moment I don't want to pay £1000 fo a computer with a poor graphics chip inside.
The GeForce 6800 in my PC cost £90 a year ago and that has 512Mb!

I personally think that it is unacceptable for apple to leave the imac this long without and update, at least to the price. People are really getting ripped off buying year old technology at the price as if it came out yesterday. Most PC's starting decreasing in price after a couple of months.
If apple doesn't give price cuts or updates when intel does price cuts to the cpu's(which is late july so that one rumor about updates around then could be true) then I think they will lose a bunch of potential customers, myself included.

Umm yeah....NO. I don't know about others, but I don't want to pay today's prices for yesterday's technology. Come on Apple...let's see at least a bump in specs!

thats down to opinion, personally i disagree but regardless, the price of technology drops quickly.
the imacs have had the same specs for goin on 10 months. if their not gonna upgrade the specs, then at least drop the friggin prices so we aint paying 2006 prices for 2006 technology

Apple does the best they can to keep their prices so low!
Apple is very dedicated to the Portables right now. We know this because the MacBooks and MacBook Pros were updated before any of the desktops were touched.
They figure they are making more money off the portables, so why bother with desktops, they can wait.
Ridiculous.
To be fair to Apple, when the prices drop so low it is difficult to squeeze any more out of a mini.
$599 - $129 (OSX) - $79 (iLife) - $75 (support for 1 year) = $316
So nearly half the cost of the machine is software and support!

It doesn't cost Apple $129 to install OS X or $79 to install iLife. That's akin to claiming that a $100,000 Ferrari costs Ferrari $100,000 to manufacturer.
Apple still makes iMacs and Mac Minis? I mean, I have an iMac at home, but last I heard they were undergoing a massive organizational shift to become a meaningless lifestyle product company with aspirations to one day buy a cellular network. As far as I know, Apple Computer is dead.
