Could this possibly be the longest time between refreshes/updates on ANY established consumer computer line? For the love of Baby JESUS, I just took my $1500 I have for an iMac and invested it in apple stock in my Scottrade account, I fugured, I could make a few bucks while I WAIT for the update/refresh. At this rate, ill have $3000 by the time it gets released and I will just have to buy a MacPro!

You are a bit late to invest in the Apple stocks, although I think it ain't too late just yet! Within a few months I definately expect the stock to hit $155-160.

Last week the Apple stock raise with nearly 15%, and since 1998 it has been a great ride!

A few bucks for an Apple stock in 1998 and now just over $130... ain't that nice!

defo think we are talking weeks now

just done a bit of a search on uk stores here

amazon uk has all models ready for dispatch in "1-3 weeks"

mac warehouse sold out on all models of imac

all imacs on pc world website listed as collect in store, not available in warehouse for delivery

dabs has 17 inch in stock but 20 inch imac listed as 3-5 days

apparently no refurbed imacs in the apple refurb store today

play.com have only 17 inch and 24 inch listed, price been cut on the 24 inch to £1199

im definately thinking late july distinct possibility, early aug absolute latest!!!

It would be better if we even knew what they were waiting for.
For example, if LED-backlit screens were available soon, that would justify it.

All this time for a case redesign.

Most likely we are waiting on:

Initial 1st Million iPhones to sell ( initial buildup and arrivial), this has happened and new shipments are now arriving.

Case design, its been done and finalized for some time.

Drop in prices on chips, I believe the top end iMac will run the newly price slashed quad core. And the others will run Santa rosa based core2Duo's.

Ready for back to school rush, announce late July and have full sales channels by August.

Not a chance in hell. For the millionth time, Santa Rosa is a mobile chip. The quad core are desktop/workstation chips. Those two platforms would require two completely different case designs. That would make it really, really expensive and completely unfeasible.

We *might* see quad-core desktop chips in iMacs, but I wouldn't bet on it. I'm quite sure it will be the Santa Rosa mobile architecture in a new case, with more memory standard on some models, a new keyboard, and maybe even a Blu-Ray drive as an option.
