iPod 32GB iTouch vs. 120GB Classic?

It's the ultimate showdown (and one you guys probably get a lot around here): iPod Touch or a Classic. I'm looking to upgrade to either of those from a 3rd Gen. 8GB Nano that I've recently filled and even after resetting it a couple times, I still can't fit anything else on it. I like the Classic because of its space and the fact that my iTunes library has quadrupled in size in the year and a half I've had my nano, but I like the iTouch because of the fact that you can use the internet, watch Youtube videos and play games and stuff on it. It's also pretty sexy. Any and all of your opinions are appreciated, thanks a ton :)
 
i'd take a 32gb in my preference it'll be enough for my music needs. and i'll be able to pop in some movies and fillerup with apps

as for ipod classic, i'd LOVE one but videos on that smallish screen might be a headache. and the space is great. but i wont be able to fill all that up anyways.

i have a 8gb ipod touch and im out of space for my music and apps. let alone some videos. to me 16gb will probably be enough for me right now.
 
i think the ipod touch is too small to watch videos anyway. plus, 32 gb isn't enough for all my music. i'd go ipod classic all the way. not to mention that a 32gb ipod touch is $400, compared to $209 for a refurb ipod classic. the ipod touch is cool with the touch screen and apps and videos and internet, etc. my brother has one and he likes it. but i use my ipod to carry music. i'd go so far as to say that the ipod touch is a tad gimmicky. ipod classic, for sure.
 
Well if you want my opinion, don't get an iPod, cause they're incompatible with many music formats like FLAC and OGG - unless you don't use those... I know I do.

I'm personally waiting for an *affordable* DAP that has big space (my iTunes library is about 70 gigs) and utilizes flash memory, not a hard drive. A DAP that also natively supports mp3, FLAC, and WAV = love
 
I have the classic 80 gig with a couple thousand mp3's with a dozen or so music vids and some movies and also five or six games and still have tons of space to spare and am quite happy with it. But I can see a touch in my future. Would really like to have wifi. Not in any hurry though. Your probably gonna be very happy with either choice.
 
touch, no question. the classic is great, but the the touch does so much more than just play music. It's really like a pocket computer as much as it is an mp3 player. I use my iphone for so much now and can't imagine replacing it with an old-style ipod.
 
There is the honest question of how much music one can listen to at one time, and the value of that relative to the additional features of the Touch, which are considerable if you don't have another PDA. If you are, for instance, an iPhone, BlackBerry, or Palm user, and just need iTunes compatibility or more disk space, the Classic has plenty of disk space unless you strongly prefer the Touch's interface. I know that my fiancée hasn't touched her iPod Touch since she got a BlackBerry (hard of hearing, can't use iPhone) and is jonesing for another Nano, because she preferred the smaller size.

One thing I found with the Ipod Touch is the sound quality is terrible. I don't know if that is the same with the classic but have a listen to them both and see if you notice a difference in clarity.
 
I would absolutely recommend the iPod Touch. the idea of having all of your music with you all the time sounds great. But you will probably only end up listening to 1-5gb on a regular basis. 99% of the time all the rest of your music will just be there.

I have about 70gb of music. I thought I would be dying when I had to choose what music I was going to put on my 16gb iPhone. I have about 9.5gb on there with room for Apps and Movies. I don't listen to half of what I have on there. I tend to listen to all my favorite stuff over and over.

Having internet access, email access, loads of apps/games and video to pass the time is so much more appealing to me. I do a lot of international traveling so I like to break it up.
 
Touch for sure. Flash memory is way nicer than having a hard drive that you have to worry about breaking. Plus, you can use it as a remote control for your iTunes at home.
 
It depends, for me, it's Classic all the way. I need everything with me since I watch any one of my 80 movies on it at any given time. One minute it's a playlist, then BAM! I just wanna see Kung Fu Hustle.

Then there's the traveling, where I can hook it up to the SD or HD TV and watch movies on the fly since there are some that I still haven't seen on my iPod or just watching one that my fiancee and I love to watch over and over again, like Office Space.

The Classic just holds more, and costs less.

The HDD on the Classic is your only hardware issue, so get Apple Care. For the Touch it'll be the glass screen, which when cracked is a done deal for your $400. The touch does a lot, but you have to ask yourself if you want a PDA with WiFi and a few songs and a movie or two, or if you want a music player that will hold just about all of your library.

Now that I have a Classic though, the Touch is in my future.
 
iPod Touch for me

I'm going to get the 16 Gb Touch with my tax refund. The 120 Gb iPod Classic is appealing but I don't like the idea having a hard drive in my pocket. Besides the screen is even smaller than the touch. Also, while I have 23 gB of music, maybe 2-5 Gb of music is what I want. In a few years there'll be a flash drive 100+ Gb iPod for what you'd pay for an iPod Classic.http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/smilies/wink.gif
 
Yeah only nice thing about the classic is that you get lots of storage space, however the touch gives you more bang for your buck. You can do more with it.
 
I personally use a 160 GB classic and an iPhone. I carry both with me most of the time. I like carrying my entire iTunes library with me at all times.

To me, they serve different purposes. The iPhone is my podcast device. The iPod everything else. I love the Internet/email/PDA aspect of the iPhone, and I can't imagine not having it, but if you told me to choose just one, I'd keep the classic. It is the one I had first.

So I would say to figure out your main uses/purpose for the device. Once you do that, the decision will be made.

Well, there's a huge difference in capacity between the two models. That has to be the deciding factor. If you feel you need huge capacity, then it's the Classic. If you don't, it's the Touch.

Feeligs aside; you said your library size quadrupled within last 18 months. IOW, 18months/6gigabytes = 3 months per gigabyte, which means that if you continue growing your library at the same pace it will take 3months*(32GB-8GB)=72months=6years to fill the Touch.

Even if you keep adding music into your library at a faster pace, the Touch will still likely not become too small too soon. So, I'd recomend Touch for your needs, capacity-wise.
 
If you want to keep a substantial music collection on your iPod (and have a car stereo that is fully iPod compatible like my recently installed Sony CDX-GT730UI), I'll take the 120 GB classic. The iPod touch is essentially the iPhone minus the phone features, and the storage capacity is not that great considering how expensive the touch is even for the 16 GB model.
