360° Drop Shadow? PS

How can I create a drop shadow for a layer and make it go all around the layer or around the sides and bottom? A good example would be the Apple.com Mac OS X page or a Mac OS X window shadow.

Duplicate layer... Turn bottom layer black... Scale it up a bit... Gaussian blur... ?

Or instead of Drop Shadow use Outer Glow. Change screen to multiply and pick a dark color.
