37 gb of "Other"??

I upgraded my 64gb iPad, which had about 10gb free beforehand. I now show 25gb over - due to 37.1gb of "other" (??) which is crowding out my music.

What is this "other" and how do I get rid of it. Note - it was a rough upgrade with backups and restores that each took multiple attempts.

I had this happen with my phone... finally said screw it and just restored it as a new phone, then re-synced my apps, music, etc. It's a pain in the arse re-organizing all my folders and stuff but it was time for some housecleaning anyway... Not a smooth upgrade by any means, but not armageddon as some people on here seem to think.
 
I use FlexPlayer to watch movies and I have to use iTunes to download the movies on the app... That will count as "Other", the movie size (MB)
 
Didn't happen on my phone but did happen on my daughter's. I disconnected her phone, reattached, and then re-synced. Problem went away.
 
Do you have your mail accounts set up as exchange accounts? If so, do you have the "Mail Days to Sync" set at "No Limit"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you do, that means that your entire mailbox is stored on your iPhone. I was doing the same until a few weeks ago, but switched it to "2 Weeks".
 
Yeah, my problem went away when I re-synced too. But, my question is, what the hell is "Other"? Usually any app-specific data is counted as part of the app size. What else could be Other?

No exchange. My mail accounts should be unchanged. Perhaps a few older iCal appointments than before, but certainly not 37gb worth.

Also - resynching doesn't solve it. It looks like it'll sync (leaving 25gb of the 37gb of "other" off, but that takes precedence and I wind up with apps, a few photos and other.

I'm having the same problem and I'm really effing pissed off. I've tried EVERYTHING. Restoring from backup doesn't work. What does it think this "other" stuff is? 10 GB of it?? I thought Apple was about being simple. I can't imagine a "normal" person trying to do this... what a effing joke. Screw you, Apple.
 
I had this happen on my 16gb iphone4 but it was only 3.5gb (which is still a lot of my total) I went into settings and cleared safari's cache and that took about 3gb away.

I have another interesting issue though. It says I have like 4.9gb free but says I am going over my maximum when I try to add a 2gb movie to my phone.

MY latest sync magically cleared it up. The difference may have been that I completed an upgrade and sync with my iPhone 4 on the same computer. Perhaps that reset something in iTunes. WHo nows why, but it appears to be better now.

I think it's the data your apps store (i.e. your documents). When you restore from backup it puts it back on there even if the app itself is not installed.
