38mm or 42mm?

So, who has decided which size they are going for?

I'm really undecided, all I know is that I want the stainless steel model. I may pre-order both initially and then return the one that I don't want. However, I don't like the idea of doing this!

I went ahead and printed out the mockup from @ryanpmack and lined it up with my current cheap daily watch. Other than switching from a round face to a rectangular face, the 42mm Apple Watch will be almost the exact same size.

42mm for me. I imagine there might be a small price gap between the two. Functionally, they are the same therefore I'd rather have a (ever so slightly) larger screen.

I printed out a scale mockup posted on another thread. 1st one is 42mm, 2nd is 38mm. I have small wrists so can't decide.

My opinion on buy both, return one...

I have NEVER heard anybody else mention this about the "buy two, return one" plan, yet... so, I'm wondering if I'm alone in the opinion that this is a crass & rude thing to do when the product is still in constraint.

Obviously, if you return one, it won't make it back to the regular supply channel soon (if ever). It will most likely, some months down the line, become available as a "refurb" online.

That seems like a lame thing to do... maybe not if it's only one or two people that do this, but if it's thousands or tens of thousands that do this in lieu of looking at it in a store or printing a papercraft, they're adding to the scarcity & basically screwing somebody else out of one, that also is trying desperately to get one on day one as well.

It's going to be interesting what they do regarding the price difference. I think it would be hard to justify an higher price only on the edition, which it'll have to be. Therefore, I think there will be something like a $30 difference on the Sport, $50 on the SS and obviously a significant difference on price with the Edition.

If people can try it out before it goes on sale (which I doubt) then I'll do that, but if not, I want it on launch day and if I find out for example the 42mm looks terrible on my small wrists, ill return it. Nothing wrong with that at all, it's not like I'm not paying for it. It's an option in considering.

Wasn't it with the iPad 2, if I remember correctly? Apple did some sort of tour around the world showing off the product? Was this before or at the same time as the launch of the iPad 2? Maybe Apple could do something like that, so users could take a look at the Watch, then make a decision on launch day?

I'm fairly certain I want the 42mm, but I'd like to see it first.

Both look good on you to be honest (of course this may differ when it has actual volume and is the real product). The Watch isn't pulling you off, you're pulling the Watch off.

I'm no watch guru so forgive me if I'm misunderstanding the watch world, but is there really a worthwhile difference between 38mm and 42mm when it comes to the size of a device you're strapping to your wrist? 4mm, or just a shade over 1/8 of an inch, doesn't seem like much of a size difference. I am absolutely getting an Apple Watch either way, I'm just concerned about the size. I hope the choices aren't "bulky" and "slightly less bulky."

Well, both of those pics are regarding the 42mm, the 38 was only marginally smaller, but since the 42mm lines up almost perfectly with the watch I'm accustomed to wearing, it's a natural fit for me. This is assuming that any price difference for the two models is "minimal". For example, a $200 price difference between 38mm and 42mm on the stainless steel model may make me consider the 38mm, but there's an entirely different thread already discussing that.

I tried the cutouts and was initially was going for the 38. But after the mockups, I'll be going with the 42. The 38 just didn't look right on me. The wife joked and said that looks like a girls watch on you. LOL. So it will be the 42 after all.

To me people who buy several products to try with the intention of keeping one, simply because they are to impatient to wait or lazy to go to the Apple store and try what fits them, are a bit ridiculous! Personally I find it immoral! There is the argument of other people who don't have store near them and I can understand that. But I still wouldn't do it. Usually I have made up my mind about a product by the launch day.... after trying it in store.

Who says I'm too lazy? I work 7am - 7pm Monday to Friday (which coincidentally happens to be the day Apple usually launch new products). If I leave it until Saturday, they may be sold out for the next month and I don't want to wait that long. If Apple let people try them on before they can be purchased, it'll stop that problem, but if they don't, then this is an option I'm looking at. Sorry if you find that 'ridiculous'.
