I run EQ at "Flat".

I noticed that going from 3B71 to 3C16 was dramatic.

I have 2 Pairs of APM, a set in Space Gray that were at 3C16 and I was "ok with them". This morning I got some silver ones running 3B71 and they SOUNDED RICH AND GREAT!!! like the HomePod does.

I let the firmware update and boom.. back to underwhelming.

Am I alone?

I thought I was crazy but there's another person mentioning it, and I can say it was definitely dramatic. I started thinking there was a difference in the anodizing.

hopefully they can restore the nice richness in 3B71

If that is correct, that would be similar to what the original HomePod has gone through. I’ve had it since launch and for the first couple of months it went through different software updates that noticeably changed its sound profile. That was also discussed on MacRumors. They finally got it right and I don’t think it has ever changed since then. The APM might go through a similar approach.

Thank you. I have 3 or 4 (can't count) HomePods and they all sound excellent. Its amazing to be have them on low volume and hearing some very low, very rich bass without distortion. I Love them, probably apples most underrated product.

Probably some power management features that clip some of the DSP in favor of extra cycles, or maybe just lower SPL in general. I really wish I had a way of testing them and was afraid the firmware update would do this.

Unfortunately the update automagically so I had no real choice..

Do you guys think with a firmware upgrade they can have accommodation or EQ settings save to the APMs themselves rather than be device specific? Whether they would do that or not is another question but would be a game changer.

Theres just so much silicon there that a simple reboot likely works wonders I guess.

Unless I am missing something, that link really is not a big discussion on how/if the firmware made that change, only a few people’s viewpoint.

I want my click back honestly, I didn’t notice any change really. I would think more people would have gotten involved with the topic if there was.

Rather recent so it remains to be seen if this firmware thread gets any fuel, right now it is only a fire drill.

I'll tell ya something. If if it was a crashed firmware upgrade, but my APM's have been unresponsive since Tuesday at 4pm. I had a repair from Apple on its way. They did everything they could do. Well I left them in the case for a couple days, and then last night began wearing them as just noise blockers over my AirPods Pro. Then today they just all of a sudden "shwip" into noise cancellation, and then I was able to pair it.

Doing a factory reset, and or reset never went past the amber light. Never would flash white.

This is the weirdest thing, now I obviously want to keep them, but I'm going to hold on to the Apple repair slip until Monday or Tuesday to see if they keep working.

Regarding the "flatness". They seem amazing to me. However before all this started, the base was diminished. Maybe I didn't recognize it. I'm just glad they are working again. It was gut wrenching to have such a nice device just dud out like that. Now I feel something else is at play with the H1 chip.
