I'm looking to get into 3D modeling for a small game I'm working on. I currently have a 13" MBP with an eGPU, but since Mojave released, Apple dropped support for non-Metal frameworks like OpenGL and OpenCL. Therefore, Blender doesn't take advantage of my eGPU and is very slow.

What 3D modeling software could I look into as a replacement?

Deafjams – is that exactly right? I thought Apple merely deprecated support for OpenGL in Mojave, rather than having dropped it entirely. I seem to be using GPU rendering on my iMac with Blender in Mojave here. (I generally don't since I don't find a huge performance difference, but I played around a little just now.)

I haven't heard any news about Blender either embracing Metal or resigning themselves to the (I believe, eventual) removal of OpenGL on macOS. Do we really know what the story is? I'm super-interested.

For people who do want to move away from Blender, I'm guessing the next popular suggestion would be something like Maya – something similarly long-lived and high-priced.

Whuhoo, that's great news. I hope the Blender team stays motivated to plan for Metal; it's such a good app.
