3D printable band adaptor

Whilst waiting for my replacement Watch band, I used the computer in my lab to design a band adaptor to let me fit a normal strap into my watch. It's not going to be the prettiest little thing, but hopefully should be functional! I've attached a picture of the rendering (sorry it's from AutoDesk as I don't have Solidworks at home!)

I shall be 3D printing it and seeing how well it works! - I will update this thread with the progress.

Note: It's designed for my 42mm but also is designed to fit the bottom edge of the watch, not to the corners as I've not yet done the tapered edges to fit the watch, mainly because I've been studying for my finals and have not had time to take detailed measurements of the watch and have no band to take measurements of the connector! If anyone wants to take some precise measurements of the connector on their band and post some dimensions that'd be awesome!

I've been thinking about finding a local 3d printer and printing a pair (Staples). If this does work would you be willing to share the file?

Unfortunately with the bank holiday, I won't have access to the 3D printer until Tuesday, but on Tuesday I shall be printing it- I will take photos of course, then it will need to go into a bath to dissolve the support materials. I'm estimating a 24hour bath is required to remove all the support material that will be used. I'll post any updates though!

I promised an update so here it is!



I finalised the design over the weekend (featured above) and 3D printed it on Tuesday, by Wednesday it was ready to test! - Unfortunately, I printed it just before the band guidelines came out and so didn't have the profile guide! It was (only just) out of shape to slide into the watch. Now the profile has been released, I will adapt it with that and it should fit fine! The button was a pain with the 3D printing because the channels along side it are so thin, they needed to be cut with a scalpel to clear the plastic between the sides and the button. It was simple enough to depress, but of course is always poking out meaning you must push it in to get it to slide into the watch... I don't think that will be a problem but will not know until I attempt again with the correct profile.
