If in the middle of the month you use up your 250mb and you switch to the unlimited plan, does the $15 you already paid go towards the $30/month price for the current month or no?

Or if its half-way through the month, will the $30 price be prorated?

If not, does that mean I would be paying $45 for one month? Thanks

You'll pay the $30 more on the day you need more data. It will then be unlimited for one month from that day. So $45 for one month plus the time it took to blow through the $15 250MB.

So if you hit your limit on the 250mb plan, does it auto-charge you for another 250mb, or does it just shut down your data connection and ask you to pay again?

Just get the unlimited.

You'll undoubtably use up that measly 250 in a few days.

And there's the peace-of-mind factor.

Once you hit the $250mb limit you have three options.

1. Stop paying for it. Once your next month cycle starts your credit card will be auto charged. You can cancel the auto charge at anytime.

2. Pay another $15 for another 250mb for another new "monthly cycle"

3. Pay $30 for unlimited data and that new monthly cycle starts the the day you switch to unlimited. So if you switch to u limited on May 9 credit will auto recharge $30 on June 9th.

You'd be paying the $45 without a doubt unless you opt for another 250MB. IMHO, you should get the unlimited plan for the first month to see how much you actually use, then downgrade if you can. I got the unlimited plan and blew past the 250MB cap in less than 10 days. To be honest though, I've been doing a lo t of showing it off and demonstrating its capabilities. I expect to use a lot less next month when some of the novelty wears off.

Moral of the story?

250MB ain't good for much. :D

250mb works for some people. People who only need to answer a few emails a day. People who browse the basic internet for less than 10 minutes.

If you do any type of steaming music/video you can blow through 250mb of data in less than 1-2 hours.

I know how to limit my data use so I would do fine with with 250mb of data per month.

I jail broke my older collegues iPhone with mywif for a conference he was at last week so he can use his wifi only iPad at the hotel. He blew through 700mb of data in less than one day. He couldn't believe it. Than I asked him if he dud any video. He was shocked I knew he was doing video. And I was right. He was watching the nightly news he missed. He didn't even realize how mug data videos consume.

Unfortuanately the general public doesn't realize how to restrict themselves to 250mb of data on their teir iPad. AT&T wasn't dumb. They knew the average iPhone customer uses 200mb of data each month. They know the average iPad 3G customer will consume twice or three times as much. That's why they set a 250mb $15 palm to make it look affordable when. It's affordable to me cause I know what I am doing. It's the other 90 percent of the average customers who don't know. They are so used to "unlimited Internet"

250mb works for some people.

That may be true, but in my opinion NO ONE who bought a 3G should have gotten the $15 plan the FIRST month. The iPad is new, and the novelty was sure to cause higher than normal usage. Expecting someone to "control" themselves the first month is ignoring basic human nature. :D

I'm at 500MB and I have yet to stream anything. Most of that has been checking the Macrumors iPad wallpaper thread...

I purchased the 250 meg plan friday/saturday and used it for a bit to check email and surf the web.

Worked fine for me, and considering everywhere else I go has Wifi, I didn't want to pay more than needed.

Beat having to pay 10.99 per day fee the hotel was charging :)
