Hi there,

I have read almost everything but I am still not sure if I should activate my new iPhone 3G with pwnage or iTunes (borowing someone else T-Mobile SIM card). I would only need activaition and would not Jailbreak the phone. Will use a dual SIM to unlock the phone.

My question is, if I activate with pwnage, can I later reset to not-activated state and will I be able to claim warranty if the phone is not activated through a T-Mobile SIM card? I can find someone with a card (and already activated legal iPhone 3G) and have him activate my phone too in iTunes... Any hints?

Can pwnage only activate the 3G iPhone 2.0 and not Jailbreak it?

Thanks much!

I'm think the old iTunes activation workaround still works. Why not jailbreak it? I'm pretty sure doing anything to it that isn't putting an AT&T sim card in voids the warranty anyways.

bryonbrock, do you have a link to the old iTunes activation and do you mean pasting the numbers in a hex editor?

Still unsure if I should only activate with pwnage or temporarily put a T-Mobile card insidein order to activate. I have heard if that SIM card was already used to activate another iPhone 3G that activation is instant as there are already all data on the activation server...

Pwnage activation has been a bit iffy - sometimes it works and sometimes you have to activate through itunes.

I recommend always activating 3G through iTunes for that reason.

Anything you do can be undone with a restore.

So the best thing I can suggest it just try making a custom firmware with pwnage with activation and without and see which works.

I don't know that anybody has tried dual sims in the 3G.

I would also suggest you post this query in the hackint0sh forum for sim cloning unlocks at:

Someone there may be able to give you a definative answer!

I was referring to something like this for unlocking the 3G iPhone 2.0: http://www.iphonix.net/ However it should be activated first.

If I activate it through pwnage, can I get it later un-activated again by restoring to factory firmware??

You can un-activate by creating a custom firmware without activation checked - and then restore with that or use the original apple firmware. Up to you.

Pwnage is fully reversed with a restore to official apple firmware so if you ever have to take it back to apple just restore and its back to original condition.
