As we all know the FCC is keeping the specs of the iPhone confidential. To me it seems logical that the 3G technology is built into the phone, just currently disabled. Its just like the Macbook with Draft N wireless built in.

ANY THEORIES?
 
My theory is that they acctually already have disclosed them and it does not have 3G.
