I was going to get the 32 gig 3G iPad this week, but the problem I've been hearing is that ATT will NOT activate the iPad if my billing address is a post office box! That sucks! Now I've had Bell South/ATT home telephone service since 1985 at the current address and they have always billed me at my post office box. Is there a specific telephone number I can call and talk to someone who knows what I am talking about the iPad and the billing address? This isn't right to ban me from connecting because of my post office address. Anyone have the phone number to talk to someone at ATT about specifically the iPad because I am going to go at them forcibly to tell me why I can't! I don't want to talk to just anyone at ATT, I want to talk to someone who is directly involved with the iPad issue. Is there a contact phone number in your 3G iPad?

Thanks for a reply

Address line 1
Physical address of your post office

Address line 2
Your post office box

Done

Doesn't work.
Also there is an explanation on the AT&T site that a physical address is req. By fed govt.

I think if that's the case then they should provide for both a shipping and billing address.

Not sure if it matters, but when you activate the 3G, it creates a local cell number for your iPad. Maybe they are just making sure you live in the US?

Thanks for the responses. I had already read that ATT requirement that the credit card and physical address must match. Now what if I contact ATT and give them my physical address (which I've had since 1993) and being that they have been billing me a home phone bill every month, they should allow me to connect to them. There goes my iPad out the window if ATT won't work with me. The funny thing is I have a Sprint mobile broadband USB card to connect my iMac to the internet (DSL & Cable) not available here. Sprint sends me a monthly bill to my post office box however. I also have two cell phones with Sprint. I'm sure that ATT can verify my home address if I gave it to them, and I'm sure they know it already. I'm sure if I call ATT for a phone repair they will know where I am at. It's all a bunch of crap!

If you do have a physical address.... why go through all this trouble? Just use it!!! Who cares? It's a recurrent payment so you don't have to type in any more info again. I don't know why you're making it so difficult on yourself.

Perhaps they think you are a seedy character.

I think the issue is his credit card address has to match the address he gives AT&T but AT&T won't accept a p.o. Box, which is what his credit card company uses.

The solution is to call your credit card company and tell them you would like to add an additional physical address to your account. I used to do this for shipments to work, family, etc. Should be simple.

So how does this sound? When I go to register the 3G iPad I give them my physical address and my credit card number which doesn't have any address on it anyway. The only thing is that if ATT tries to mail me a bill or something I have no mail box at my house and their mail would be returned to them. But yet if they charge my credit card I would still get the bill from the cc bank to my p.o. box. That sounds like it might work.

Just call your credit card company and ask them to add your physical address (the one you are giving to AT&T) to your account, so charges with that address will go through. They do it all the time. Remember, this really isn't AT&T's fault... (or Apple). If anything, it's a good security measure, otherwise a waiter could use your card for his iPad!

Hi Chris, just read your post in that link you provided and I am in the same boat. I did what MacTodd suggested today, I called my credit card company and what we did was to change my P.O. box address to my physical address. We just set it up for the physical address until after I activate the phone, then call the cc company and change it back to my p.o. box. Hopefully the Apple store will have the 3g in stock by the middle of the week. I had thought about just doing what you did and give ATT my physical address knowing probably that they wouldn't cheçk anyway. Thanks for the reply.
