3G backup takes forever

I only have 12GB of data on my iPhone and my phone takes about 20 minutes to backup everytime.

My mate's phone has more data and backs up 10 times faster.

I deleted all my backups and started again. It's been about 20 minutes so far and only 5% has backed up.

What could be up?

Bad cable?
Slow or bad HD?
Overly large iTunes library?
Not enough RAM?
Faulty iPhone?
Non-USB 2.0 port?

Both iPhones backup to the same iTunes on the same Mac.

Then it's probably a problem with the iPhone, or the data itself. Since that's is (apparently) the only common thread with your troubles.
