I am just wondering how people are doing with the battery life with 3G turned on on their iPad's. I am getting about 3 minutes for every 1% drain of the battery. Is that pretty normal? That's not even close to what I get on wifi but we already know those stats. I am kind if disapointed with the battery drain on 3G. I love it though.

3 minutes per 1% drain means 100% = 300 minutes = 5 hours.

That's much shorter than it should be (9 hours).

The battery life on my 3g seems pretty comparable to the battery life on my wifi - I used it for like 2-3 hours yesterday and battery was at like 76%.

Mine lasts me through a day on one charge. I have push enabled so 3G is on the whole time.

Battery life is much better with 3G on and location services off. The GPS sucks a lot of juice.

I will give that a try with location services off. So in one hour, my battery drained almost 20%. If not I am calling Apple. Just while typing this, I lost 2%.

Sound's like something is wrong with your ipad...unless you type REALLY slowly.

No just watching tv. Took longer than usual but a big enough drain. There is no difference with location service off. I am aggravated over this. Might head down to the Apple Store later. Over an hour drive though.

You should time the drain on the entire thing.

Battery percentage isn't completely accurate, and doesn't decrease linearly.

For example you might be at 100% for 40 minutes, and then drop to 95% in the 10 minutes after that. It's possible that you're looking at it during one of those times it's going down faster than normal.

I get about an hour every 10-11% it seems. So about 9-10 hours a charge, which is what the specs say. I'm satisfied so far. And that's with wifi, 3G, and location services on.

What is your screen brightness set to? That's the only thing that matters. If you're at 75% or higher, five hours is all you're going to get.

Set it to 50%, and tell us how long you can go. Looking at battery life by the minute is insane. People with OCD should turn off the Percentage display option in settings.

Good point on screen brightness - At the beach I have to set it to max and sucks the battery.

I should have mentioned that this also happened to me a few days back and I have charged it since.

Anyone notice the drain using the ABC app? I am going to test it out on 3G and see what the drain will be.

I think there might be something to the "3G circuitry consumes power even when data setting is set to off" idea.

I noticed that the 3G drains faster than the wifi model, even when the 3G radio is off. I'm going to they setting it to Airplane mode and turn on wifi too see if that makes a difference.

I have used my iPad with the 3G off and then with it on all the time. There is only a very slight difference, almost negligible. Excellent battery life either way.

Since I was not able to replace the unit at an Apple Store, I had to send it out to Apple for service. I am not sure if they are going to service the unit, send a replacement or send a new iPad.

My battery is similar to the op's.

I'm going to hang with it for a while and see how it goes, and if I'd need a replacement they could do it in store hopefully.

The problem is that it still lasts my days usage even though it isn't as long as it should be.... So I don't think I should complain!

I think you need to relax and wait a few days or even a week to get a better feel for it. Test it over a longer period fo time.
