Highlighted above is my issue. I've tried to do a forums search for this issue but I guess I'm not wording it correctly. I end up getting the complaint forums about people with poor reception, so here goes:

Whenever I wake the iPhone 3G from sleep and move past the lock screen, I get no data connection whatsoever. It does not automatically refresh itself at all and safari gives me the standard "couldn't connect to the cellular network" screen. The quickest way to get the iPhone to connect to 3G or EDGE is to go to Settings > Airplane Mode and flick the slider on and off to get it to reconnect to any type of data. I've tried restoring twice and it eventually returns to this issue.

What can I do about this, so I don't have to keep manually persuading my iphone to connect to the data network?

take it to the apple store explain your issue and they'll replace it with new phone within 5 minutes. they have great customer service.

I went to the apple store today, but they wouldn't replace it. They kept claiming it was an AT&T issue and not a phone issue. Odd considering my phone showed the same issue at their store whereas other phones were fine!

I'll wait for 3.0 and see if that doesn't fix it...

If all the other phones in the store were fine and yours was the only one not working then its obvious that the problem is the phone and not AT&T, that is unless all of the other phones were unlocked and running on T-mobile:rolleyes: . Suggestion, go back to the Apple Store and get a replacement, that is ridiculous.

Well, I was given a reasonable argument by a friend of mine who works with cellular towers.

Since AT&T subsidized the iphone 3g, and even though I purchased it from an apple store, until my 2 years are up on my initial contract the phone is currently theirs, and not apples. So I should call AT&T about it, but not take it into my local AT&T store, because no one there will do anything but say, "it's apples problem".

I just don't see how this will help other than a come across as complaining about my local area's reception.
