3G iphone having a problem with tmobile sim. need software unlock

i had my iphone for a while using the gevvy 3G turbo sim. but when i have the edge network it keeps kicking me off whenever i got to a certain spot and it kicks out of the tmobile network and just cant seem to get it back on. i called tmobile 5 times in 2 weeks and they tell me that i need to reset network settings and go to another carrier and go back to tmobile carrier after that to reset the networking... or to insert my sim to a tmobile phone and activate the internet or something... but this isnt working and they say i need to software unlock it... (or else my sim card will burn LOL eventually...) i called the dealer who helped me unlock and jailbreak it and they say that the 3G iphone doesnt have a software unlock yet... (left me puzzled) but then online i think yellowsn0w or something works? im not sure... but tmobile told me to find an unlock code or something. can someone please guide me through? because yesterday when i toggled the network i lost even the phone function for tmobile. thanks.

You need to make sure your phone meets certain software requirements to unlock it. The site above has info on this as they are the team who came up with the software.
