Hiya

Wonder if someone could help. I've just got hold of an iPhone 3G 16GB and Cydia is already installed on it and applications can be installed via Cydia as well.

How do I check what jailbreak method is used in the phone? The current firmware is 3.0 shown via iTunes.

My second question is, can I upgrade to version 3.1.2 with all current applications/themes configurations etc?

Thanks :)

If you want to check what firmware you are running(if this is what you are asking for) go to the iPhons Setting>General>About and scroll down to Version.
And if you want to upgrade to 3.1.2 and remain Jailbroken you have to do the Jailbreak process all over again and after that any package/app/themes you have not backed up using a Cydia Packup app will have to be redownloaded.

Once you upgrade to 3.1.2 you will lose all JB items you have installed.
You'll have to jailbreak again and install everything after.
What JB method was used doesnt make much of a difference and not sure if you can tell what they used before.

Cheers for the tip. Gonna make an update in case something goes wrong.

Thanks Applejuiced. That answers my question.

Is there a reliable method for jailbreaking 3G without causing much trouble? I've searched and it appears 3G are easily jailbroken but not sure which is the best method to go forward. Any advise would be appreciated.
