So, my question is, why does Apple show a 3G iPhone on most of the advertising I've seen, but iOS5 doesn't support the 3G??!!

It wasn't until I tried synching my iPhone several times before I saw a box WAY down on the website that showed that my piddly 3G wasn't supported.

Yes, I know I may have the only 3G left on the planet but I was really exciting about some of the new features in the new operating system.

Huh? The iPhone 3GS looks identical to the 3G, and supports iOS 5.

What advertising have you been watching? Sure you aren't getting confused with a 3GS?

Your 3G has not been supported since November of 2010.. Why did you have any hope of receiving iOS 5 on it?

yup, 3G is really really old. if he gets the 3Gs it should be fine until iOS 6/ iPhone 5

Easy enough from anyone from the US to say. In Canada the iPhone is sold on a 3-year contract, so someone buying one in October 2008 would only now be coming to end of their contract.

Granted, we can generally upgrade after two years, but not everyone does.

That being said, I agree that the 3G is old tech by now, and it's not unreasonable that Apple has stopped supporting it. Moreover, iOS 4 was a pig enough on the 3G - I can't imagine trying to run iOS 5 on one.

There are definitely no ads on television with the 3G or the 3Gs especially since the 3Gs is now a free phone with new activation...because it is ancient! Any advert would be with the 4s.
