3G iPhone locked after 2.2, Gevey 3G Sim card also dont seem to be working.

Hi there,

Just got an unlocked 2.1 3G iPhone and I kinda did the silliest thing by trying to jailbreak it. It was an unlocked iphone with one of those Gevey 3G sim card thingy.

Firstly, it reported an error when I was jailbreaking it. So I had to restore, and I cant seem to restore (it gives me a 1013 error). So I tried to restore and update to 2.2, which worked. But now it seem the iPhone is locked, as it asked me to insert a sim card - and the Gevey3G dont work now. I m left with an emergency call screen and thats it.

I am very new to the iPhone, and am at total lost. Really hope someone can help me out. I didnt get the phone through the normal mean - AT&T, kinda got it off the shelve at one of the electronic store. Have I been cheated?

Please, if anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

your not totally lost.
if your on a pc then you download quickpwn if you are on a mac you can download pwnagetool.
as for the gevey 3g sim proxy wont work with 2.2 modem firmware but once you used either quickpwn or pwnagetool you use cydia and download yellowsn0w to unlock your iphone with out any sim proxy.

you can search yellowsn0w pwnagetool quickpwn for more detail

Hi there,

But now my iphone cant even be restored, it shows the "connect to itunes" logo and when I try to restore - manual or auto, an error msg pops up saying error 21.

Any idea how to be able to restore everything?
 
restore with 2.2 restore file from apple. once your done with that you should see the emergency call only with a lock screen. then run quickpwn or pwnagetool.

But you have any idea which pwnagetool i should use? Been reading the forums, but there are so many different versions..
 
I just restore to the 2.2 firmware you mentioned, it works! thanks!!!

But could you help advise which pwnage to use? btw, I am using an iMac to do this..
 
google for quickpwn and use that. pwnagetool was helpful to jailbreak 2.2 firmware while keeping baseband at 2.11.07 version. with yellowsn0w this is no longer needed as yellowsn0w only works with 2.28 baseband.

so what you need to do is download quickpwn. run it. it pretty much does everything for you. once its jailbroken, open cydia, add the source for yellowsn0w which you can find http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/67797811/dont-eat-yellowsn0w

after u add the source, cydia will refresh. once you are done, search for yellowsn0w, install it. if you are on T-mobile, disable 3g, reboot. you should be all set after that

Hi there,

I tried did exactly, and while being asked by quickpwn to put my iphone into a DFU mode, my itunes popped up a msg saying "Itunes cannot activate your iphone because of the SIM card is not inserted or a SIM PIN is required."

and Quickpwn just shows a "QuickPwn is about to run on your iPhone 3G" but it never does... nothing happens there. (the iPhone also appears not to be switched on at all), I retried this a couple of times.

Am I doing it wrong?
 
The instructions I followed, twice (once for 2.1 and once for 2.2) stated not to have iTunes running while running QP.

Hey Mike, I am trying your advise, but everytime I switch on my iphone and then proceed to put it to DFU - itunes pops up and gives me the error msg.. Hence disrupting the jailbreak process...

Any idea how to prevent itunes from coming up?

I got this done, now the iPhone is working perfectly, even without the gevey #g sim..
