Any info from Chicago?

Anyone know how things are in Chicago, at the Michigan Avenue Apple store or Best Buys in the city? Thanks!

I'm at the michigan ave store now. There's only about 15 people in line right now. Seems to be growing now though, I'm probably going to head outside and get in the line right now!

Just got to Best Buy in central PA and there's not even a line, about 5 people waiting around tho... Less than an hour, I'm hype!

I was gonna go get one today but then I weighed: iPad 3g vs 5pm Rush Hour traffic.

Sorry iPad, I don't want you that bad. I'll go another time during the late morning. Less risk of road rage causing me to fling my new iPad out the window at some other driver.

mayfair store near milwaukee, wi... there are about a dozen people right now.

Surprised to see there are any lines at all for the 3G version of the iPad. I figure most Apple fans already know that AT&T's 3G network is a joke, and would just get the WiFi version with a MiFi from Sprint or Verizon.

surprised someone who refers to themselves as "3g4gexpert" doesn't realize that the 6 ppl in a 4g area already did....

Uh - the 3g has the gps chip!

Another recurring theme of this board:

"Here is my opinion - you will all be proven wrong - most people feel the way I do, despite what you are saying"

Reality intervenes, contradicting their belief

"Reality is wrong and I am right"

The problem is you are stuck to a 2yr contract unless you already pay for such a service so you wouldn't be taking on additional cost. If these companies did month to month with unlimited bandwidth then I think it would be a viable alternative. Most of these are also $60/mo instead of the iPad's $30/mo.

I myself use Sprint 3G already, but it's kind of slow in my area. I would go for a 3g just for flexibility of being able to have it when I no longer use my Sprint.

For the average (average being the keyword here) consumer, the 3G iPad is a LOT cheaper than the verizon service. AT&T, $30/mo, Verizon, $60/mo. That's $360/yr or $720 over the course of the 2 year contract. Now, I'm not even taking into consideration the fact that AT&T is month to month so that will save people money, and then the $15/mo plan that will save additional people money as well.

The two best things about the iPad are the battery life and the very reasonably priced 3G service. Add to that the GPS chip and the 3G model at least for me was a no brainer.

80 in line at the Montgomery Mall store in Bethesda MD. First person in line said he got here between 8:30 am and 9 am.

At 5 they had all the Apple employees lined up on either side of the main store aisle and they "clapped in" the first grouping. Very dramatic.

I went over to the Best Buy in Schaumburg, IL around 3:15, and there were 3 people in line inside the store. I walked around the store/shopping center a bit, and came back, and the people were gone. They were handing out out tickets. I went over to where the line had been, and one of the salespeople asked me which one I was looking for, then handed me a voucher, then told me to be back at 5:00, and that if I wasn't back by 5:30, then I wouldn't be guaranteed one.

Super simple! It looked like she had a lot of vouchers too.

Reston Best Buy was sold out by about 5:15 when I arrived.

I am in line at the Apple Store now. The line is longer than I hoped (maybe 80 people) but the employees watching the line say there's plenty of stock and estimate a 20 minute wait.
