I am having a problem with senting email when on 3G or 2G. I am getting the error message "one the the recipient addresses was invalid." Once I press ok it tries to resend and I recieve the message again. When I get home and my phone picks up my WIFI network it sending no probelm.

Does anyone know whats wrong?

I have had problems receiving Gmail via iMap nearly all day. Symptoms are that only the header of the message will retrieve. The spinning ball on the top of the mail app keeps spinning. The iPhone gets hot leading me to believe that there is some problem requiring it to keep trying the data connection.

When I switch to Wi-Fi this problem goes away and all my email downloads.

What do you have set as your outgoing mail servers?

Do you have the AT&T smtp server as your backup? It should be. I had inadvertently turned mine off when fiddling with my mail settings. When I fixed that, I can now send mail from anywhere, on any part of the data network.

I wasn't getting that exact message, but try it anyway. To test it, turn off your WiFi at home, and try to send a message.

I am having this problem when retrieving email from my GMAIL account. I never got so far as to try to test sending -- because the iPhone pretty much freezes waiting to either download or connect.

I think the issue has been involved because I was out for a little while and email was flowing in via 3G.

I'll have to see how it all works tomorrow.

I had the same "invalid address" problem on my iPod touch after I upgraded to the 2.0 software. Just hangs there forever trying to send but never actually does. It was fixed with one of the updates Apple recently released, though. Are you all up to date with your software?

Can you get to gmail webmail? About a month ago I couldn't get to the webmail because they were having issues with some servers. When it came back up on webmail it started working again on my phone.

cwmx.com but I believe you can just choose it under advanced outgoing server settings. You just have to turn it on and leave all the options as they are.

Thanks so much for your help!
