Randomly (I assume) while surfing or otherwise using my iPhone 3G the on-screen volume indicator will appear on it's own.

I had been noticing this for a while but thought I might have been hitting the vol. switch while holding the phone in landscape mode.

The other night though I realized I wasn't anywhere near the switch and it did it on it's own.

Secondarily, this isn't the same view as if I had actually pushed the button on the side. When I push that it shows the graphic and says 'ringer' on the top, but when this phatom press happens it just shows the graphic.

Any ideas people?

This has happened to me as well. The volume not only pops up but lowers itself all the way down and refuses to go back up for a while. I have also had an issue with the screen locking itself. Seems to be similar to the volume issue because it brings up the slide to power off screen sometimes as if it were being held down. I'm hoping that this is a software bug and not a short circuit. It has only happened a couple times and I have not restored again because I haven't had time. I am still on 2.0.1.
