3G only at Verizon and ATT?

Stopped by the local Verizon tonight about 6:30 on my way home, guy said they sold out in about 1/2 hour.

I told the guy I was going to head to the ATT Store to see if they had any left, but he said the only place you can get the 3G was in Verizon and ATT... Is this true? I kinda think he was clueless...

No, the other stores (apple, best buy, target, walmart will sell the 3G, when they get some more, that is). I got my verizon 3G at best buy.

My Apples store had both AT&T and Verizon - until they sold out, that is.
I think I was fortunate to get my black 64GB VZW 3G model.
