3g or 3g S

Hey I'm new here.

I did do a search and came up with nothing so I'm sorry if I missed a similar thread.

I know this comes down to personal preference but I am not that familiar with the iphone so... here it goes....

I'm getting an iphone next tuesday. I'm wondering if I should get the 3g or the 3g S. Here are my circumstances:

-I live in a place that will have no AT&T 3g coverage at all....
-I won't really be using the video camera at all if past experience is any indication
-I wont use it for music too often, already have ipod touch for car, etc...
-I don't do much traveling so I won't need GPS much
-I don't use many minutes so that will increase battery time...
-I don't anticipate needing much memory (if I went for the 3g I would probably get the 8gb)

So, in your opinion, 3g or 3gs?

Also, typically how much memory do you use for apps?

under those circumstances, why bother getting an iphone when you already have an ipod touch?

I'm going to be honest with you. Because of the conditions you stated, you might as well get any old phone, because it will do what you're looking for, being a phone.

But if not, and you still just want a Phone, then the performance of the 3G should be fine.

Awesome apps can be handled by your Touch.
Awesome Phone, apparently isn't not as great as you think it will be.
Switching to At&t, you might as well get some other phone.
Internet at your house - If you want internet, then get a wireless router?

Dial-up only available where you live? Well, I am assuming you live in a rural area?

If so, getting Internet thru your iPhone won't make difference as you will be stuck in EDGE speeds. Unless your town got lucky to 3G speeds.

Edit - Nevermind, I re-read your post and see that your town is not blessed by 3G. In that case, EDGE will be noticeably faster than dial-up (56Kb/s vs 256Kb/s), but ask yourself, is it really worth it $30 extra a month?

You asked, but gave every reason why you want a 3G.

The 3GS has nike+, its much faster, and can record video that you can upload to youtube on the spot. 3GS is the better phone, but if what you say is true then you've answered your own question here.
 
3GS is a faster phone. Apps will start up faster, pressing the home button more quickly pops up the home screen, and Safari renders pages quicker (even on wifi).

Even without 3G/gps, the overall experience of the 3GS is more fluid and less frustrating.

Plus, some apps are 3GS only, and that trend will probably continue as older models get replaced.
 
3GS is a much better device because of the faster processor and, my favorite, the oleophobic screen!
 
You'd probably do better buying a used 2G iphone. Your dataplan will be $20 instead of #30 and you get some SMS with it. That being said, the 3GS loads websites faster on edge than the 2G or 3G do.

You can also sell your iTouch to cover some of the price of the iPhone.

I don't think I've found an app that's over 150MB (except for GPS/nav apps).

But really, just buy a used 2G or go for the 3G.

-then either the 3G or 3GS would see no advantage here as you will only be using Edge
-both will do in this aspect so that leaves no advantage for either 3G or 3GS
-both have built-in iPod, no advantage for either 3G or 3GS
-both have GPS, no advantage for either 3G or 3GS
-both are a phone, no advantage for either 3G or 3GS
-3G is found in 8 and 16 gig while the 3GS is found in 16 and 32 gig and seeing as memory is not an issue for you then I would conclude once again that there is no advantage for either 3G or 3GS

-Apps do not typically take up much memory, but if you'd like to get a good feel for the app sizes, download iTunes and browse the app store to see the file sizes of some of the apps you would be interested in

Summary
You would benefit no more from one device than another
3GS renders faster than 3G
Your choice only comes down to performance speed
And I understand you are the antiparagraph and enjoy typing this way









But in all honesty, I don't understand why you would buy a phone that is feature rich, but don't want to take advantage of its features...heck, you don't even want to use it very much as a phone itself. And who's to say Edge will work faster than your dial-up. If you live in a rural area, you may be lucky to see 5 bars and plus, browsing on an iPhone won't render every page the way it could on a stand alone computer (i.e., flash pages). If you're thinking that this is a replacement or remedy to your dial-up woes, you may want to give some more thought into this purchase. Some of the apps require an internet connection of some sort, and some have limiting functionabilities on an non-3G and non-Wifi network (i.e. CNN app) and data on the Edge network is painstakingly slow. I travel 300 miles each day 3-4 times a week and am on Edge for about 260 of those miles...it is very slow. But I guess if you have dial-up, you'd be use to that.

But what exactly would you be using this phone for? Your one-lined, short answers are too vague.

3G all the way, the bottom line is you just won't use or even need the features of the 3GS.
