3G reception app?

Is this possible?

Could someone code up an app that allows you to plug in your 3G signal strength, and ties it to GPS, and posts the results to a map?

That way we could see a real-time version of AT&T's coverage map, except based on actual user info, instead of marketing?

In the same vein as the various Twitter-style apps.

Not a bad addition. A simple speed test that adds GPS info, and plots the results on a map.

It might be possible, but it would reflect poorly on ATT and likely not survive, at least for long.

all you people that are blaming AT&T for everything are ignorant. It is not AT&T that is making your signal suck, as much as i love this is an problem. The signal is bad all over the world. I live in Japan and have the same signal issues that you are having in the states. And to top that Japan doesn't have edge so i have nothing but 3G to rely on. when i was in the states on the first iphone i had no issues at all with AT&T. So i know this is aggrivating but we will just have to wait till re-writes there coding to allow for strong reception strength, which before you complain about this will in turn hurt the battery strength.

Signal issues here for sure have a lot to do with Softbank.

Hmmm...I wonder whose fault it really is, crappy service by ATT, or a weak radio/poor coding by Apple. Perhaps everyone is at fault, you bought an iPhone 3G, you got sucked in by advertising and now are having early adopter bugs. If you can't deal with that, then you can sell the phone and get something better

I got a Iphone 3G 16 GB last week. I am in san antonio. I get 5 bars all over the city. I get awesome 3G web browsing...faster than anything I had on sprint.

It is ATT faults if you are having dropped calls or subpar 3G service...The 3G network is simply not fleshed out in all the areas. In San antonio it is ATT home network..so it is optimized since day one. There are no issues in San Antonio with a 3G iphone.

Everybody is blaming apple when it really is ATT network issues outside of San Antonio.

Also some people might have defective Iphones...if your wifi does not work or you are getting 10 dropped calls in 5 mins...then you have a defective phone. Take it back to the Apple store and get a replacement. That is why there is a 1 year warranty. It it is found that the 3g chipset in the iphone is defective...Apple will replace it under warranty. There is a 1 year warranty...do not forget this.

Also this could be a firmware issue...apple could fix the issue within the next firmware upgrade.

Remember if you have issues take you phone back to Apple or call ATT and complain. Complaining here on this forum without talking to ATT or Apple will do you no good.

The Iphone 3G is a good phone...probably the best phone...but only in a good environment...if you live in the boondocks...you will get subpar performance.
