I hate it when they say "late April"! Could be anywhere from the 16th to the 30th! I can't take this kind of anxiety! April is going to be agony from Saturday onward until whenever the 3G model ships. I am banning myself from Apple stores, watching unboxing videos etc.

Anyone care to guess at when the 3G will actually ship?

My guess? April 30th. When Apple says "Late MonthX", they mean LATE. Not to mention it's on a Friday, perfect day for when most people in the US get paid. Perhaps they'll launch April 27th though, Apple is known to launch a lot of products on Tuesdays. I think it'll likely be EITHER the 27th or the 30th though, that's my guess.

I predict april 24th

I hope they make some early announcement of the date and not just say oh were selling 3g models today

I hope its not May - I'm going on vacation in May and would LOVE have a 3G iPad for the 12+ hour car ride. :D And I don't have an Apple Store or BB near me to go get one... :(

Do you guys think that Apple is deliberately withholding the release date until after the WiFi version is out so to get as many people as possible to buy the WiFi since they don't know when the 3G one will be out?

For example, if we knew that the 3G was out on April 17 lets say...then people would think "Well, I can wait another 2 weeks and get the 3G" but this way, since we don't know, people are thinking might as well buy one now since who knows then the 3G model will be out.

That doesn't make any sense.

I'm pretty sure apple will make more money on the 3g version than the wifi version so they have no incentive to do this.

Guess I was just trying to find some reasoning for them not telling us the release date. I mean...whats the hold up in telling us a date?

Except to build up bigger launch numbers. My guess is it will be outside the return window to ensure people don't grab the wifi one early and then return them for the 3G when they come out.

And we have a winner! I'm betting they ship inside the last week of April.

My theory? They want to sell less 3G models because of AT&T. When asked about network strain from the iPad, Randall Stephenson claimed he believed the iPad would be a more wifi-centric product, and Mr. Stephenson wants to see to it that it happens that way, possibly a good reason AT&T agreed to do a $30/m plan with no contract. They didn't do that without Apple scratching their back a little first, I know that.

Apple knows they are going to sell a ton of iPads. Whether it's 3G or wifi, people who want one will get one. So? Release the 3G models late to try to keep network strain down.

I would like to know, too, but I got a WiFi unit coming on Monday to tide me over till the 3G unit gets here.

I was reading a review someplace where it seems, that for the future, an iPad tha connects via the cell phone network was really the future. A future where you aren't tethered to a wifi tower.

And I can see the point. I'm going on vacation later this month. Probably leave before the iPad is released (the 23rd). I won't be able to use it when I'm in the car (as a passenger). The phone can get a little small, especially in a moving vehicle.

3G and radiation

I hope its not May - I'm going on vacation in May and would LOVE have a 3G iPad for the 12+ hour car ride.

If you are online (3G/UMTS, also WLAN) with an iPhone within a car, maybe also closed windows, the iphone goes to the maximum radiation for UMTS and that's 2 Watts!

So if your are planning to use your iPad with 3G for 12 hours within a car, your are in serious danger: The UMTS radiation is not as healthy as many of us are thinking! Think about it...please!

Greetings from Freiburg, Germany!

I hate to say it but few here are worried about this radiation. Drugs and alcohol is much more harmful!

I think you nailed it. they will probably wait a week or maybe 2.

No, I heard it had something to do with the timing of FCC approvals, which are separate for the 3G and WiFi models.

I believe the 3G models will be released on Friday, April 23rd. That's well outside Apple's 15-day return policy for the WiFi-only model. And being on a Friday will save Apple money because Saturday delivery costs extra.
