Hey...I have a 3G iPhone firmware 2.2 and have this problem maybe...once or twice a month. Usually after hitting the home button or the power button it clears the problem right up, but so far no such luck.

I can tell that my phone is on because the ringtone sounds when it gets a phone call, but hitting the home button, volume button, and the power button doesn't cause anything to happen.

It's not been dropped or damaged in *any" way. Everything but the screen is working...again, it receives calls (you just can't answer them because the screen won't respond), text messages, it will even sync to iTunes. But nothing I do is causing the screen to light up.

Usually if I do the home button + power button combo that causes the screen to come on, but nothing is working at the moment. I expect it will come on in a few minutes, but I'm still wondering what is causing this.

Again, this happens very rarely, but I'm still curious as to why and what to do about it.

I'm syncing my phone as I type this, hoping that when it finishes syncing maybe that will cause the screen to work.

You aren't alone. I've started having random things, including this, start happening. I haven't found a fix yet (restored the software already) so I don't know what's up...

It's ANNOYING. And it's still not working. Usually I can play with it until it'll come on, but nothing is fixing it right now.

When this happens to me, I usually find doing a hard reset (holding home+power, 10-15 seconds) does the trick.
