My 3G download speed is about 3.5 times yours. Same on my iphone. No problem at all.

Yes. Welcome to AT&T. I get those kind of speeds on my iPhone 3GS all the time. That's why I chose the iPad WiFi instead -- plus a Sprint 4G Overdrive which downloads at 8x the speed you are seeing.

Keep in mind that your speed is going to depend on how many other people are accessing the same cell tower as you. At 3 am when I'm the only one on, I get pretty much the entire backhaul to myself. During the day, not so much.

IPhone 3GS
DL - 1591 kbps
UL - 219 kbps
Ping - 515ms

iPad 64gb + 3G
DL - 2390 kbps
UL - 250 kbps
Ping - 522ms

Dang, American speeds are horrible. AT&T is the fastest 3G experience?

In Canada our networks are capable of up to 21MBps in most places so for our 7.2MBps iPhone 3GSes 6MBps is not rare.

It's a shame the Overdrive doesn't last as long as the iPad in terms of battery. That's the one gripe I have about my Overdrive.

3g

Doesn't bother me too much because I am only going to use it when no wifi is available. Just glad there is a lot of wifi. At least there is the option when necessary.

The 3G version has WiFi too ya know...for $130 extra 3G is a no brainer.
I would much rather have the option of turning on 3G when needed than carrying around extra crap and extra batteries to charge.

$130 for 3G and a real GPS...come on now. Why would you want the WiFi model over a 3G?
