I believe last year people with contracts ending before September could upgrade the day the 3gs came out. Do you guys think apple will do the same this year?

Sincerely hope so - looking forward to it - but only after we've had 2 months or so of people arguing about what it's going to look like, contain, do, cost, not do, not look like, not contain, etc.

I love the rumours and discussions that go on about all this stuff. People get so heated and passionate about what it IS going to be like, when so few people actually know, and most of them don't come anywhere near discussions like this, and wouldn't post anyway if they did.

So my O2 contract is up in August, and I want to upgrade the phone when it becomes available, but I also want to move away from O2 as I get 1 bar of reception, if I'm lucky, at home, and O2 don't do Femtocells. I'll be starting a business later this year which will rely on being able to receive email and phone calls to book appointments, so need to ensure reception at all times. So I either have to switch to another network (Vodaphone is the only realistic one - not because of their reception but because, if there isn't any, it only costs £50 to get the Femtocell) or I have to rely on a Skype account and the ability to keep VOIP active that Steve promised last week.

Don't know quite how I got there from 'will we get an early upgrade', but another thing off my chest for the day...

TT

With AT&T, if you've been on your contract at least 18 months (sometimes longer, sometimes shorter...), you're eligible for an upgrade. I got my 3G last week of July, 2008. According to AT&T (when I last checked), I was eligible to upgrade at the "normal" subsidized price back at Christmas, 2009. :)

Probably go to your carrier's website, log in to your account, and ask there. Also, Apple's website will indicate it. Just follow along like you were ordering a new iPhone, until you get to the phone prices. If they're $99/$199/$299, you're good to go on the "subsidized" pricing. Just don't go past that page, or enter a CC#!

The deal last year was that if your contract was scheduled to run up in July, August or September, that you could upgrade to the 3GS early.

My contract is up around the 20th of September. So I am VERY hopeful that AT&T offers this again.
