I have searched for information on this for a couple days and have not been able to get a clear answer. Are there any benefits to using the latest baseband that comes with 3.1? I have been trying to find out what improvements were made in the new baseband over the old one but I can not seem to find an answer.

I have my ECID SHSH file stored with Cydia so downgrading is not a problem and I am using 3.1 Jailbroken with the older 4.26.08 baseband. I have no need to unlock my phone since I use ATT so I am not worried about that. If there are improvements in the new baseband I would like to run it.

I've been wondering the same thing. I assume they must have made some improvements besides trying to eliminate the unlock...

Well at least I am not the only one... I'd be willing to to try it out on my phone if I knew a procedure to upgrade it that would not render me unable to jailbreak my iphone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I should be able to upgrade to the official 3.1 which would upgrade the baseband also then downgrade to 3.0, jailbreak it using redsn0w, and upgrade again with the jailbroken 3.1 ipsw.

I still wish I could find a change log for the new baseband.

3.1 has been out for some time now. No where have I read anything about any performance benefit for 5.11.xx as opposed to 4.26.xx.

That doesn't mean there is none, just nothing has been documented, which makes my common sense say.... the only real difference is they removed 50% of the commands to kill the exploits for unlocking the phones.

My 2 cents worth.

Yea, but only because you have your 3.0 ECID SHSH on file with Saurik. I wouldn't want to give those who aren't any bad ideas...

That is definately not my intention. I would only attempt it because I have it in file.

One big problem I do have is that the GPS does not seem to be very strong, I lose signal a lot while driving. Is it possible that the newer baseband could improve this?
