iPhone 3gs 5.16.05 unlock failed please help

Hello;
I have a 3gs, BB 5.16.05, ios 5.11, S/N: starts with 860138
I attempted to jailbreak and unlock with Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 for windows.
but unlocking failed.

At the time of unlocking I did not have a Sim card from another carrier to try it, so I unlocked it and not used it for a day, then downgraded the BB to 5.13.04.

Cydia and safari crashes when I try to open it, when tethered boot using Redsn0w, Cydia and safari loads fine but again if I reboot the phone for some reason, again same story the Cydia and safari fail to open up.


anyway when I got a Sim card from another carrier, tried it but it shows SimLock.
That was my bad and I shouldn't restart and downgrading the iPhone until get the right Sim card to try.

I have removed Ultrasn0w and reinstalled it within Cydia, also removed mobile substrate and reinstall it, no luck so far.

I have followed the process I found from two video tuts below, first jailbreak the iphone and upgrade the BB to 6.15.00, the second video is for downgrading the BB.


Jailbreak and unlock,


Downgrade the BB

then I did the process again, upgraded the BB from 5.03.04 to 6.15.00 and rejailbreak reinstall cydia and reinstall ultrasnow, tried Sim card, but no luck,
Now iphone has BB 6.15.00, have not changed the ios, it is still 5.1.1
Cydia and safari still crashes when opened.

anyone have any solution for me?
appreciate your help to solve this problem.

Looks some how you have a tetherd jailbreak, did you try Just boot in redsn0w?

Do you have blobs for 5.1.1?

the tutorial says it is untetherd, but i am not sure now.

no I don't know about blobs.
 
Can you open Cydia, on the main page it will give you any available blobs
"SHSH:..."

Sometimes a firmware restore is needed to get the downgrade to function.
Without the blobs you can't restore to 5.1.1.

on cydia it is nothing that I can relate to saved blobs, I am not good at these things, but i did download Tinyumbrella and with a tutorial that I found and followed, there is one saved called:
iphone3gs 4.1(8B117)

so is this useful ?

by restoring do you mean to restore the iphone with ios 5.1.1?
can this be done with itune?

As you have no blobs for 5.1.1 you cannot restore to that, if for some reason you have to restore you can only restore to 4.1 or 6.1.3.

Check and see if in Cydia this package is installed:
Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether

That is the untether part of the absinthe jailbreak on 5.1.1

If not install it.

I did install the Rocky Racoon from Cydia,
the cydia and safari now works fine when reboot the iphone without the help of Redsn0w,

how to make the unlocking works.
any idea?
 
What carrier is the phone locked to?

Usually ultrasn0w just works after the install and a reboot on either 05.13.04 and 6.15.00.

On the main page of Cydia right at the top it should say SHSH: .......

If 5.1.1 is not there you can't restore to 5.1.1 which might be needed to get it to work.

Best is to get an IMEI unlock.
 
Have you installed ultrasn0w from cydia for the unlock?

on the main page of cydia I don't see any SHSH, but right on the bottom of Cydia it says: IphoneGS3, IOS 5.1.1, Cydia 1.1.6,

the Iphone is locked to Fido in Canada,

Yes cyber16, I have done that, I have removed and reinstalled it couple of times,
I just checked,Ultrasn0w is installed in cydia.
 
Toggle airplane mode on/off
Turn off 3G and reset network setting
Reboot
Then turn on 3G again

Sometime ejecting sim card will do the same

OH Yes, I just did it, but i have to wait to get a sim card to try it on.

I was searching for a way to unlock my iphone 3gs 5.16 too. Good to see a recent post about this. Could someone help me out? I think it's locked on AT&T. My uncle sent it here in the Philippines as a gift and after using it for a week with a local carrier it locked.

I dont know much about unlocking or anything about this stuff but all help would be appreciated. Thanks :D

If it is AT&T, buy an IMEI unlock - about $5 and never worry about firmware or baseband changes again.
