iPhone [3GS | 6.0.1 | 05.16.07] "unable to load network list" // "no service"

Hey Guys,
I am stuck and desperate, so I thought maybe I should get some help.

I recently got an iPhone 3GS and would like to move on from my old 2G
iOS: 6.0.1
Carrier: o2-de
Serial: 88939...
Modem Firmware: 05.16.07
Redsn0w + 6.0.x Fix installed

I can't find any information on how to unlock my iPhone :/ The sticky posts in this forum tells me that my iPhone should be unlockable, but I can't find any secure information how to proceed. I keep reading, that I have to upgrade to the ipad baseband, but everyone warns doing so.

Is there any information missing one could need? If yes, please tell me!

Your modem firmware ("baseband") 05.16.07 is not unlockable, only 5.13.04 and 5.14.02 for the 3GS are.

Use IMEI unlocks instead. Ultrasn0w unlocks are a thing of the past.

I wouldnt say Ultrasn0w unlock is a thing of the past. Not everyone is willing to pay IMEI unlock and some IMEI unlock are very expensive for some carriers.

OP: You can upgrade your baseband to iPad's then downgrade it to an unlockable baseband with Ultrasn0w.

Irresponsible to not let him know that for certain 3GS models, this could FRY his phone's antenna. Not to mention make his GPS useless.

IMEI unlocks are ~$10 or less. If you can't afford that for an unlock, then maybe a smartphone that costs many times more than that amount, let alone the monthly service costs or app purchases, is not the phone for this particular person.

Only 4.26 thru 5.13 basebands for 3GS

Right. I forgot about 'newer' bootrom not capable with iPad baseband. I don't see how responsible you are for not giving other options to OP.

FYI, I said he needs to downgrade the iPad baseband so his GPS works.

IMEI unlocks are $10 or less for ATT but NOT every carriers out there. As you see in OP, the carrier is O2-de. There are numerous threads people asking this and showed that IMEI unlocks are far more expensive than ATT.

FYI, you don't know if OP bought the phone or was given therefore not being able to pay for IMEI unlock doesn't mean OP shouldn't use it. There are people out there that don't use data plan and many people never buy any apps because they only use free apps.

I have good news: Since it is more than 2 years old, I was able to unlock the sim via the telekom (original carrier) unlock system, but it is still not working which however could result from the unlock taking its time in the systems.

One last question: If they unlock does NOT work, and I am going to do the bb thing: If I get stuck at the bb up/downgrading, am I still able to reset my iphone and thus ifnally get my antenne and gps back working?

It may take some time, but you can also try to deactivate it manually by installing SAM from Cydia.

You have to restore through iTunes I believe. And I would ensure that the unlock was processed - these things don't happen in minutes.

Almost all carriers (except AT&T until recently) will unlock at your request, especially if out of contract. Even if that fails, I would advise someone with a 3GS, where many things can go wrong when screwing with the baseband, to take the safe route of using a carrier or IMEI unlock.

To each their own, however.

Regarding iPad baseband, updating newer 3GS to the iPad baseband will FRY the hardware of the antenna - period. Downgrading baseband cannot fix screwed up hardware. There is really no solid reason to bother with the iPad baseband on a 3GS nowadays.

Some say that on 6.x no deactivation is necessary and auto attach will follow by conecting to itunes.

Wasn't SAM closed? And the restore for unlock is required if you unlock through AT&T. Didn't think other iPhone carriers would be different?

2 different things in SAM, the original use is to solve push problems there for you need to deactivate the phone, that still works.

For a offical or grey market unlock to attach you need to deactivate the device, stock devices can only do that by restoring, jailbroken you can use SAM or redsn0w to deactivate.
Procedure is the same for all carriers.

Side effect was a way to have a standalone unlock with saved unlock ticket, that was closed, original function works fine.
