3GS and 3.1 jailbreaking

I've seen several threads on this... What's going on? I saw info on custom ipsw files, pwnagetools, etc. I it possible yet? What are the steps and does it matter if I let saurik hold my files on his server? Any info would be great.

Go to the DevTeam blog and read the post at top of the page, all the info is there.

Your 3GS must currently be JB on 3.0 or 3.0.1 in order to be JB to 3.1

Just find you custom ipsw and then hit shift+restore in itunes find the custom ipsw and restore it, thats it basicly. But you have to be already JB on 3.0.

I havent had any problems yet and my phone seems to run a little smoother.(but it might be placebo) but that's your call 3.1 run fine for me.

did I hear you correctly, after doing this pwnagetools method, I'll have to reinstall all I currently have Installed?

I agree with all you said in the link you posted.

Of course you will, it is the same as any upgrade, jailbroke or not...when you install a new ipsw it replaces ALL files on the iPhone...It is a complete install. You then have to options...restore from backup (not recommended) or restore as new...this is the method I use then I just reinstall everything fresh.
