i like how at the end of the stream, he says the the 3gs and ipod 3G will run "pretty much" every feature in os4. He then says that the 3gs and ipod 3G will run every feature "youve seen today" obviously, theres going to be a new iphone, but i really hope the rest of the features that are not in the developers "PREVIEW" are amazing.

Another note, when engadget specifically asked for glance-able info, widgets and better notification management, he said "anythings possible"

i really believe they are saving a lot of the great UI changes for wwdc in june.

Wrong, 3Gs runs all features of 4.0, the iPhone 3G won't run all features (I think just multitasking as the big one) and the 1G won't run 4.0 at all (If I read correctly).

Fixed that for ya.

No, Steve Jobs said that the 3GS and the latest iPod Touch run "pretty much" all the 4.0 features.

Your 3GS won't be obsolete, you'll get all the features announced "today."

Ahhhh, but the "one more thing" is the kick ass unicorn and rainbow feature that only the latest iPhone and iPod touch will able to do, which will be announced the day before release. There will be a stampede.

Thus, my iPhone will be obsolete.

It's getting pretty late. 3am is a rough time.

Correct, except it/they will be announced at WWDC when the hardware of gen 4 is introduced.

Oh well that's just pissed me off royally. I kinda hoped that by buying the top end 3Gs I'd have a phone that wouldn't become obsolete within a year...

you can't buy any technology without it being obsolete within one year. with rumors of the next iPhone hardware being targeted for June-July for a while now, it doesn't surprise me.

If Apple was smart they would have the next gen iPhone OS to radically better then the OS 4.0 for the 3Gs. ex. Facebook integration into the contact list along with status updates, notification toolbar, etc.

Obliviously this news brief is to reassure people that they should continue buying the current gen iPhones.

Facebook can already integrate with your contacts if you enable it. It works for me. Why should Apple create it all. Give Devs the tools to create it in their apps and let the users decide what they want and don't want.

I do agree with the notifications that many have asked for. It's amazing on my JB 3GS.

The syncing isn't really the greatest and it doesn't give you status updates in the contract list.

IMO the biggest mistake Apple is making right now is legacy support + simple patches that don't break support but are also don't provide the quality of service we want.

I see your point, however...

My contacts sync just fine. If someone changes their photo it updates in my contact list just as if they update their contact info, at least the last time I checked. I could see why some would want status updates in their contact list, and I hope you get it, I however will want to be able to turn that feature OFF.
