99% sure that changing firmware won't fix your "baseband issues". Be more specific about that issue.

Determine if your iPhone 3GS is old bootrom or new bootrom first

hi dwalls,
thanks for your reply.
it is new bootrom.
the issues are that i continously lose internet connection, mostly every 20-40 seconds. which is kind of annoying.

thank you!

if you did not manually save your iOS 6 shsh blobs, then the chances are slim that you can get an untethered jailbreak on iOS 6

baseband: 06.15.00
ios: 5.1.1 (9B206)

thanks!

Open cydia and click TSS center. What iOS version shsh blobs does it say you have?

Use redsn0w to downgrade the iPad baseband. That's probably what is messing up your wireless stuff. Click jailbreak and uncheck ALL boxes. Only check downgrade iPad baseband. You might have to repeat this a few times to downgrade from 6.15.00 to 5.13.04

shsh: ios 4.1, 4.2.1r1, 4.3.1, 4.3.4, 5.0.1, 5.1.1

sounds good if there is a way to fix that :)

and what about updating to an ios 6 version? at the moment the phone makes me crazy - or just a really patient person. almost any app i try to open refuses. it mostly takes at least 10 tries till it runs - if. springboard also likes to crash.

Worry about updating after you fix the baseband issue, as updating to iOS 6 won't fix the baseband. Plus, iOS 6 feels like a vampire on my old 3GS.

so - downgrading the baseband before updating & jailbreaking? there's no influence then??
i want to do this, cause its either not working properly or crashing.

Get rid of the iPad baseband

iClarified.com has tutorials - be sure and use the older, recommended version of Redsn0w to do the removal - it may take a few tries for the downgrade to work

I recommend you restore to 4.1 to do the removal, then once on 5.13.xx, use Redsn0w to make a No_BB IPSW and go back to 5.1.1

hi,
to make no mistakes - first: downgrade baseband, second: upgrade ios and jailbreak?

thank you all!

Downgrade baseband
Restore to iOS 5.1.1 with an ipsw stitched with your shsh blob (edit: make sure you also make it a no baseband upgrade custom firmware too)
Jailbreak using redsn0w
Install ultrasn0w from cydia (as it seems you rely on a software unlock)

What a stunningly bad suggestion!
UltraSn0w does NOT work with the BB with 5.11 which is why the upgrading of the BB was necessary in the first place.

That is off you are on a BB that UltraSn0w CAN use.
Please stop giving bad advise.

When you downgrade from the iPad baseband, it brings you to 5.13.04 which is supported by ultrasn0w. Once you are on that baseband, you can restore from a no baseband upgrade and remain on the ultrasn0w supported baseband

so...which advise is now the good one? ;)
thanks!

Mines is good, even dhlizard said the same thing. Confucius has not commented against me (he used to in around an hour) so I'm not going to take it that he figured out he was wrong

I just managed to JAILBREAK my 6.1.3 3GS using this guide..

Code:
http://www.jailbreakqa.com/questions/32462/frequently-asked-questions?page=1&focusedAnswerId=153674#153674

Followed it exactly as it s written and now on a tethered Jailbreak seeing as that's all that is available at this moment in time.. just means I have to boot it through Redsnow but not a big issue as I needed it unlocked seeing as my carrier is a waste of space.

Only follow the guide if you take the plunge and update to 6.1.3 though .

Installing fakeclockup should get rid of any "lag" issues if any on iOS 6. Did for me
