iPhone 3gs help for a newbie

Hey guys. I'm wanting to jailbreak my iPhone 3gs and was wondering if you could give me some advice.
It's running 5.1.1, has a baseband of 05.16.05 and the first 5 letters of the serial are XJ145.
I'm thinking of jailbreaking it using the newest version of absinthe as I believe this will give me an untethered JB. I'm not bothered about unlocking it at this moment in time.

Can anybody see any problems with what I'm planning on doing and maybe some good threads to read through.

Cheers mate, I thought it was compatible but wasn't sure. Am I correct in amusing that I'll still be able to use GPS, imessage and all other normal functions?

yes your confusing jailbreaking and unlocking.
