3gs Jailbreak question

My friend is getting a 3gs this weekend. He wants me to help him jailbreak it. I have a 3g so i'm not familiar with the 3gs and how to j/b it. I checked out Iclairified.com and noticed there are two guides. One for capturing the 3gs which details "Instructions on how to capture your iPhone 3GS iBEC and iBSS which will be required to jailbreak in the near future". and the other is for j/b the 3gs with Redsnow which details "instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on OS 3.0 firmware using RedSn0w for Windows".

My question is do I need to do the first part and capture the iBEC and iBSS or can I just skip that and use the redsnow j/b guide?

To answer your question. YES. but google purplra1n very easy process. DL app for either mac or win. plug in phone it takes maybe 5 minutes..real easy

sorry but just to clarify, do I need to do both steps? or can I just do the purplra1n instead?

If your friend plans to update to 3.1 when it is released and will want to JB after that update, yes you should get the files.

To JB the 3GS with it's current 3.0 Firmware you can use the "rain" fix or Redsn0w .0.8.
 
Geo version will have a solution for 3.1. if you do not know much about JB ing. use purplra1n...way easy

no, I j/b my own 3g phone. I just noticed the tutorials on iclarified and just wasn't sure if I had to do both steps. I used Redsnow after upgrading to 3.0.

yes do both steps the theory is that you will need the iBEC and iBSS codes when 3.1 both the Dev team and Geohot agree on this . if you plan to go beyond 3.0 get it or else they say you will be unable to break past 3.0.

no sorry for the confusion. just j/b the 3gs. I just wasn't sure what the capturing of the 3gs did and if i needed to do it along with redsnow. I will talk to my friend about the 3.1 OS coming soon and if he wants to wait for that release and then j/b it or just j/b w/out upgrading.
