I have an iPhone 3GS. It was jailbroken. Prior to iOS6, i was running 5.0.1.

I wanted to unlock it, so using iClarified i tried to downgrade the baseband, which caused all manner of problems & didn't work.
To cut the story short, the only way i could get my phone functioning again (as in able to call & text etc) was a very long process of upgrading to iOS6.

I really don't like it.

Again, using iClarified & ultrasn0w, i saved my SHSH blobs which i have in a .plist file, but i've no idea how to use them or if they're any good to me.

I have the 5.0.1 restore file i downloaded from iClarified.

So basically what i'm wanting to know is based on all the info above, can i downgrade from iOS6 to 5.0.1 which i was on previously (or 5.1.1 if that's possible)?

Or am i SOL?

Thanks in advance.

If you updated to iOS6 your baseband was likely updated too. As far as I know, there's no way to downgrade baseband.

If you have the SHSH for 5.01 you should be able to dowgrade, make a NO_BB custom 5.01 IPSW with redsn0w. After that stitch the SHSH to the custom firmware, use that to alt-restore(mac)mor shift-restore(win) in itunes in pwned-dfu mode.

Your bb will stay at the 6.0 BB, you will probably have the 1 signal bar issue which you should be able to fix with ultrsn0w.

I read similar cases where people were asking about their iPhone 4/4s. I don't know if it's different for a 3GS or not..??

Anyway, i was given this link: http://itechbook.net/downgrade-ios-6-to-5-1-1-5-0-1-with-2-easy-ways.html

It's a bit late in the day here, as i'm about to get some sleep as i'm up early for work in the morning.
However looking at that link, it suggests i can do it - as i have my SHSH blobs (from when i was running 5.0.1) saved. This implies i can revert back to 5.0.1.

It's too late to try it now, but do you (or anyone else) have any idea whether that link is correct & that it SHOULD work?

As for the baseband, if this is the same as "Modem Firmware" then it WAS 05.16.05 when i was running 5.0.1, but it has now changed to 05.16.07.

Even still...that link doesn't mention baseband & suggests it can be done..?

Thanks.

Not heard of this 1 signal bar problem. Is this an easy fix?
