I am thinking about buying a 3gs today, but i am very new to the 3gs. So, I know that only some 3gs's are jailbreakable. This is a 3gs on 3.1.3 with a model number MB. Can i jb this if i get it? or do i have to wait?

So this kid that is selling it says that his cousin can unlock it. He even said he'll jailbreak it for me if i buy it from him. Is this possible? I'm confused.
i dont get it. sn0wbreeze says it can jailbreak the older 3gs bootroms, right? i dont care about an unlock because im with AT&T. So why cant I jb it? can you suggest any reading to better understand this?

sn0wbreeze is a new source in the jailbreaking community. I would only trust a software exploit released from either the dev team or geohot.
He's either lieing or he's clueless.
3.1.3 firmware 3GS models cant be jailbroken or unlocked at the moment.
So if you buy it you will be able to use it stock on at&t only.
Untill a jb is released and maybe an unlock in the future.
okay... so i guess he has the shsh for the iphone. he says he has it saved on his computer. so he says he'll sell me the iphone and give me the shsh for the phone. but he was saying something about a tethered jb.
so im guessing with this phone i'd have to downgrade to 3.1.2 with the shsh, right? but its not tethered is it?

If I was going to buy a used iPhone, the first thing I would do is find a time to meet the seller and schedule an appointment with a Genius Bar at an Apple Store near you for the same time. Meet the seller at the Apple store and have the Genius Bar do the a diagnostics test, including the liquid test to make sure the phone is in perfect working order and that it has never been submerged in water (this includes being used in the rain).
And just for reference. I just sold my completely flawless 3GS on craigslist yesterday for $500. For that price I gave the buyer the following:
- 16GB iPhone 3GS
- Contour Flick Case
- screen protector on the phone
- 2 USB cables
- wall charger
- 3GS desktop dock
- Armband to workout with the phone
- The box the phone came in with all the documentation and the standard headphones that I never opened
I also told the buyer that since the phone is still under warranty until August, if he had any problems with it that could be fixed under warranty to let me know and I would go into the Apple store with him to make sure it was repaired.

That sounds like a steal. I know I should probably hold off, i know a better deal might come along... i just really want one. but it feels a little forced.

nope, you cannot jailbreak it. this guy you're buying it from is a complete idiot and has no idea wtf he is doing. he has them saved on his computer and is going to give them to you? no. he is stupid. The SHSH have to be saved to saurik's server, thats the only way to downgrade. If he didnt click make my life easier on cydia, its too late. move on cuz this guys a scam.
You can spoof the signature server locally using Tiny TSS (which comes with Umbrella).

You can only get it from Apple. If you didn't get it before they stopped signing, it's too late. Whether you save it on Saurik's server or locally, you have to get it from Apple.
Your SHSH? If you've downloaded your SHSH, you can use TinyTSS to restore. But the only way I know of to get your SHSH is via umbrella.
im not so sure what an SHSH is, can you tell me what it is, what it consists of, what it does, etc?
An SHSH is a 66 KB xml file. Most of it looks like like gibberish when opened in a text editor. If downloaded with Umbrella, it will be saved as a file that called ############-iphone-3.1.2.shsh (where ############ is your phone's ECID). You can only get it from the Apple server, and the only way I know to obtain it is using Umbrella.
Please note that it is not the same as the iBSS, iBEC, or your ECID.
