Doesn't this tutorial make it unnecessarily complicated? Why would I want to cache the server locally when Saurik's already got my ECID SHSH on file and would be happy to sign any install request I make? All you have to do is edit your hosts file to point to Saurik's server, and restore as usual.

I can understand wanting to back up your ECID SHSHs locally in case Saurik ever loses them (in fact, I think I will do that myself). But there's no reason to go to the trouble of setting up a TinyTSS server on your computer as long as Saurik's got your SHSHs.

thelatinist- you know how my yesterday went, so I'm going to ask this here. I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but since I just blackra1ned my old bootrom 3GS yesterday, my pending TSS request for saurik to store my SHSH really isn't going to matter, is it? I'm under the impression that since :apple: stopped signing 3.1.2, anytime someone selected "Make my life easier" in Cydia, it would be pretty much worthless at this point? Can you enlighten me please? TIA:)

Of course it is more detailed than necessary for just a simple SHSH restore.

The author wanted to cover all the bases and I believe he alludes to that fact early in the first or second paragraph.

And although it's unlikely it will never be necessary, shortly after getting our two 3GS phones, I took care of saving the blobs to my hard drive as well as Saurik's server.

Heck, Saurik was deathly sick and in the hospital several months ago from complications from H1N1. I'm not taking any chances.

I feel that calling this a restore tutorial suggests that these steps are necessary for restoring, though. In fact, this is a tutorial for creating a local cache and a tiny TSS web server on your computer.

Did you see page 2 (link at the bottom of page 1)?

The restore process is detailed out start to finish ?

And because I respect you, I'm not gonna get upset like you did with VanDam500 when he "suggested changes" to one of your threads. :)
