Hello all. I have an interesting issue that happened this week. My wife has 2 pencil 2's, due to losing one at one point. They both worked a week ago when she was finishing up her semester in grad school. This week when she went to use one, neither of them were working. We went to the local Apple store, and they told us that:

1. It's just bad luck both broke within a week
2. Only one pencil is covered by AppleCare+ on an iPad
3. The Pencil 2 we bought at Best Buy after buying the iPad is not covered by the warranty
4. The pencil 2 we bought at the Apple store after buying the iPad is being covered because they are bending the rules for us

My wife and I both agree that we remember when we bought the iPad, one of the perks of AppleCare+ was that if we ever did buy a pencil - at any point while the iPad was still covered under warranty - it would automatically be covered by the AppleCare+ warranty on the iPad. There was no mention on where we would need to buy it from.

We've already replaced a pencil2 once. This is the 2nd and 3rd broken Apple Pencil we have.

What are we supposed to do? The Apple Pencil is turning into a disposable accessory that doesn't even last a year. There's obviously something wrong if both broke within a week - possibly even the same day. I'm leaning towards some sort of environmental/usage factor, but - and I asked - Apple doesn't provide any sort of guidance on how to use the pencil or what you shouldn't do with them because it will break them. So are we supposed to just experiment on them at 100 dollars a pop?

I guess I'm just venting, but I'm not sure what to do. I find it unacceptable that we are going through a pencil per 9 months or so. Is this normal for pencils? Anyone have any advice here?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. These are Apple Pencil 2's, connected to an iPad Air (5th generation I think)

I can see why they'd say one pencil - but BestBuy are surely an authorized reseller, & there's nothing about needing to purchase at the same time as the iPad.
