Hey guys i posted a thread yesterday with no replies I am hoping I can get some more advice. Ive just had my third replacement macbook sent out to me and it has scratches all over the surface like the previous replacement. I do want the macbook heck I was using windows before this but the scractches on the cover are obscene under lighting. Ive already sent an e-mail to sjobs@apple.com regarding what has gone on and had a nice executive contact me to apologise who then sent out this replacement macbook. I am just wondering where I go from here. Obviously I am taking time out from work to wait for deliveries and returns of the items as I bought them from the online store. Do they have some sort of compensation policy at all? Any advice would be gladly welcomed.

Last year I sent my month old Macbook in for repair, not a scratch. When it came back it was scratched all to hell. It looked like the person who worked on it had been spinning it around on the workbench as they worked on it. It had large, deep, circular scratches all over.

I called Apple and they agreed to replace the case at no charge. It was a fairly painless experience, except for the month total that I went without my machine. In my opinion, it was completely unnecessary. Apple techs needs to be more careful with people's computers. These things are far too expensive, and one of the big draws of Apple machines is the aesthetics.

You and I aren't the only ones on these forums that have dealt with this problem.

From this post and others like it, I'm convinced Apple is *occassionally* replacing MB/MBPs with refurbished units. How else can you explain all the scratches? Unless you purchased a refurbished MB to start with, Apple should be sending you a *new* unit when you get a replacement. If this is the case, shame on Apple.

I'd agree with that, except that when you buy a refurb from Apple it looks brand new.

I sent in my MBP for service and it came back scratched all over, and I had sent it in pristine. The replaced the casing. Granted I had to send it back in a few more times for Mobo replacements until they sent me a new one which has been fine except for a few minor things. Just wanted to let you know you aren't alone in having this problem.

I suspect there is something that you are not telling.

  1. Why did Apple send you so many replacements to start with?
  2. Did you deliberately scratch the machines because of some other issue that you didn't like, but wanted to blackmail Apple into replacing?
  3. Like others said, even when you buy a refurb they come pristine. Replacements come in retail boxes. I refuse to believe you are "lucky" enough to get 3 machines with scratches.

Hi there in response to iwoot just to clarify i have bought a brand new macbook. The first macbook i had did not have any markings on the casing it did however suffer from dead pixels. This was purchased on the 8th February. The replacement i received for this on the 14th had gray blotching that kept appearing intermittently on the screen as well as the case scratching which consisted of hundreds of circular scratched circles. Todays macbook i have received has perfect circular concentric scratches all over the macbook and visible under lighting. I wouldnt deliberately ever cause damage to property like that and i resent you inferring that. Surely there is something going on at the production level. I am asking for compensation seeing as I have now taken 4 days out of work awaiting and returning the machines. Why on earth would someone want to blackmail apple over a bloomin £900 piece of equipment. Im sorry but I fell iwoot that you would defend the company to the hilt. Have you ever heard of sod's law? I am a switcher i like the os in the minimal time i have used it I just want to get what I pay for and at that UK premium price I expect some sort of quality assurance.
