AT&T will not offer insurance for the iPhone apparently. Apple is going to have AppleCare for the iPhone but that won't cover any user damage, or theft obviously.

Does anyone know of a good reliable insurance company that insures smartphones?

Has anyone looked into getting a rider on their homeowners insurance?

"Apparently"? What is your source of this information?

No one at any AT&T store has ANY DETAILS about what rate plans or additional service options will be offered, third party or otherwise (though insurance is always third party in the wireless industry, either offered through a company like Lock/line or Assurion, sometimes through the indirect retailers themselves though that won't affect the direct-only iPhone).

I didn't even know that Apple will be offering AppleCare for the iPhone yet - didn't see where that was officially announced.

One thing I'm looking into and probably will do (from multiple recommendations) is getting renter's insurance through State Farm and they have a rider for other things like mobile electronics that will replace those items and it's not subject to a deductible. For me, it would cover the cell phone, my Nikon D80 digital cam, laptop, XM, etc...

May be worth researching into.

I have a "personal articles" insurance policy w/ State Farm. Far cheaper, and better coverage.

We would like to thank for the inquiry. However, unfortunately due
underwriting guidelines, coverage for the iPhone is currently under
review and is not available at this time. We are in the process of
working with the underwriter to have this policy updated and available
as soon as possible. We will be more than happy to collect your contact
information, and you will be contacted once this product has returned.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Just got this response today, it took 2 weeks for them to send it. Almost gave up on them, but now it looks like I still need to find another company that will do it.
