3rd Party SSD which support 10.10.4 TRIM

I thought it would be a good idea to have a list of SSD's that are known to work after enabling TRIM using the "sudo trimforce enable" terminal command.

I have a Crucial M4-CT512M4SSD2 firmware 040H and haven't been brave enough to try it yet

Please post your drive and firmware details and I'll build up a list in this post...

500GB Samsung Evo 850 (dont have the firmware number since Im at work now, but the 850 has not had any firmware updates yet).

The OS reports that trim is enabled, and the SSD seems to be working fine

This is a bit pointless.
If there are to be any issues (i.e.: data loss) with some SSD's, it's not gonna happen as soon as you enable TRIM on your SSD.

Agreed. The problem is data loss and this may not become apparent for a very long time. Case in point, you have included the Samsung 850 and I'm pretty sure this is one of the models that does incur data loss (it's blacklisted in Linux).

The 850 data loss is apparently happening when used with queued TRIM in Linux, but works fine on windows.
Does OSX used that queued TRIM ?

Edit: apparently it is not issolated to the use of queued TRIM

It is more or less a problem with the Linux file system ext4. It is therefore safe to assume that HFS+ Journaled does not have TRIM related problems. See also:

I have the same SSD and firmware update and I too would love to know if I can enable TRIM. I've looked at the Crucial SSD Forums and there is no mention of whether or not this is OK to enable yet.

So does any of you nice people know if the function of this command is in any way different from enabling TRIM using Cindori's Trim Enabler? Meaning if one works without issues, does the other also?

I'll provide data on a Samsung 830 if you can put me at ease as to any differences between the two methods.

If it was a commercial decision by Apple not to enable TRIM before to encourage Apple upgrades it certainly isn't now.

The fact it's not enabled by default and you have to use a 'hidden' command that has a big warning tells you that Apple engineer's have some concerns. Who knows what issues they encountered?

Nobody better come crying to the forums if they have problems. Me? I'm willing to take the risk, my data is not that valuable.

You shouldn't involve yourself with creating such a list. If my SSD lost data six months from now because it was on your list I would blame you. Being able to activate TRIM is totally different to having data loss a year from now.

TRIMFORCE will activate on pretty much all SSDs anyway, so your list is moot. If it doesn't than no big deal, again list is moot.

At the very least edit your post to say 'will activate but make no long term guarantees over data loss'. Saying 'known to work' is just outright misleading.

No, it tells me that you interpret standard warnings wrong.

Seems to be working for Samsung 840 Pro running firmware version DXM05B0Q.

But like others have said, while the system states that TRIM is enabled, I have no idea if it is actually performing TRIM commands as it's supposed to.

Typical paranoia. Since Apple doesn't *sell* SSD upgrades...

It was simple pragmatism. Why in the WORLD would you voluntarily take on supporting something you hadn't tested? This isn't Windows PC's... Apple controls the entire hardware platform.

I'm surprised they actually bothered with trimforce.
