The iPad is worthless to me. I've gone to see it every morning at the university store, and I love it, but it's worthless.

3.0 is dated and weak. The old OS brought us here, it ushered in a new era, the smart-phone era. It showed us the unlimited possibilities and Apple gave the software simplistic touch it needed to be the one and only phone neh, computer that was able to connect with its owner on a more personal level. Just you and flat glass screen. The perfect blend of innovation, simplicity, and power...a whole new way to experience computing. But that was 2007.

Tomorrow, what can we expect? I expect greatness. Apple is always a let down... not tomorrow. 4.0 I feel may be the single greatest achievement of Apple. Picture this...

It's 2012, the earth is crumbling away below you, the volcanic ash covered you completely long, long ago, the Earth is ending, humanity - all but extinct. You think back to April 8, 2010. The day 4.0 was released. It connected the iphone, ipad and LPDs (less portable devices aka macbooks, mb pros, imacs etc), but more importantly it connected the world as we know it. Tablets, dominated by the iPad became standard. It was like the iPod x 5, the iPhone x 10 - sure people had iPhones, but the couldnt run apps like the iPad, every student, starting in elementary school had iPads.

4.0 is going to be the Charlotte's web of amazement on this more beautiful-than-Pandora Planet of ours.

Agree. 3.0 was awesome, but it also sucks. Apple is the greatest company of all time, but also the worst.

4.0 will be incredible...unless it's crap.
 
Am I the only one who is a little cautious about this whole 4.0 preview today??

I mean they have not mentioned the iPad at all - the iPhone 4.0 preview.

Of course it will have knock on effects to the ipad but im sort of not getting hopes up to high (hoping to be blown away of course!)
 
I have learned over the years to have reasonable expectations and not expect Apple to defy the laws of physics and economics.
 
4.0 is only great until its announced. Ultimately, it will be a flop like 1, 2, and 3.0 b/c it won't run on unicorns. At that point the chorus will sing "I'm waiting for 5.0."

Just two things: The laws of physics are often rewritten.
Apple always charges just a little too much and provides just a little less than expected.

I'll be shocked if the 4.0 iPhone UI looks any different than 3.anything. They won't obsolete their huge library of apps. Expect a hardware update running what looks like the same old UI. If Apple felt there could be a better Touch UI than what is used on the current iPhone, we would have seen it on the iPad.
 
I have learned that 9 times out of 10 Apple announcements will be quite underwhelming.... especially the more they are hyped up. It could be a fault of their own great marketing, and post such as these with fans of their products working themselves into a frenzy expecting greatness.

Nah..physics has been pretty static it's his redneck brother Quantum Mechanics that can't grow up. First it was strings, then foam, now it's brains (ahh! BRAINS!). :) (hahah..physics joke there!)

4D, I know you are sometimes critical but I don't understand when you make a statement about 'charges too much and provides too little' :confused:

Apple is a company out to make money. They are considered 'high-end'. Bang-Olufson is a company out to make money and they are considered 'high-end'. It's a free market. If you don't want to drink their kool-aid or don't think their price point is inline with their product...don't buy it. Buy a Pioneer system instead. Some call Apple a pretentious expense. Yeah, it's a different take with different views on what their customers want. For me, I like their product and don't mind paying the upcharge. If you don't...it's fine. I use/work on CAD/CAM high powered PC workstations all day. I don't want to put up with the hassle of Windows at home. (OBTW: If Apple is overpriced don't get my started on Sun and their RISC workstations). I don't really mind Windows. XP was fine and Windows 7 will, hopefully, erase the taste of Vista. I only flame back when people compare it to Apple. They are two different views on an OS. They look similar and have similar goals but are fundamentally different underneath. I have always expected Linux and it's step-children to be the dark horse in this 3-way. Biggest problem is marketing it. It is more customizable and much cheaper (free?) than either of the other two OS's. Still, hasn't been a hit in the mainstream. It also has desktop and portable versions. Maybe it's an identity crisis? Unknown by name to most people? (Heck most people above 50 call anything with a screen a 'computer' whether it's a desktop, laptop, or GPS :) )

Let's face it...Microsoft is a company out to make money. They do it by being the Walmart of PC's. Low cost and high volumes. The price you pay is all the updates, drivers, and sometimes incompatibility that comes with tying 40 bazillion different types of hardware together. Apple, for better or worse, keeps a firm hand on the hardware. That allows a longer and easier update system. This can be 'limiting' but only if you want to be. This is just like the Pioneer vs. Bang-Olufson purchasers. The audiophiles will have almost the same argument. To me, a $8000 dollar receiver is nuts...to them, it's just the cost of doing business in the big city...:rolleyes:

...and I am not ranting (though it seems like it)...just didn't get much sleep and just drank a gallon of coffee while fixing some parts drawings <buzzzz>:eek:

I actually find some of your viewpoints very valid.

I'm pretty sure a lot of it will be focused on iPad. They aren't going to omit a product that hasn't even fully launched yet (3G). If they were going to do that they would have just waited till WWDC. The timing of it means they must have something pretty substantial in store for iPad, but I guess we'll see.
