Hi Guys,

I've pretty much fully upgraded my Mac 4.1 to 5.1 with the needed components except for the GPU, which is still a GT120.

My monitor is a dell aw3418dw and can run max at 3440x1440 @ 120 FPS.

I believe I cannot run this resolution with a GT120 card. Which card do you suggest? I don't need it to be expensive or the best. I just need the resolution and preferably work out of the box.

Cheers.

Edit: I did read about the 580, but honestly that's too much for just music production.

I don't think RX580's are too expensive if you can get them used. Consider they are well-supported and very stable.

That said, Apple published a list of supported Metal GPUs and some are less expensive. macvidcards may have some less expensive cards, too.

I have the RX580 Sapphire Pulse 8GB. Runs great. Drives 3 monitors (2xFHD and 1 at 1440p). I don't think it will have any resolution problems, though I don't know if it drives 120hz.

I use a Sapphire RX 580 8 GB since it gave the best performance without having to hack my power supply for dual 8 pin cards. Remb that power through the mother/daughterboard has a pretty low wattage threshold.

Anyway, yeah 580's are not so expensive. I believe they run for about 100 euro's for a used one here.

They are just plug and play?

Correct, plug and play in 10.13.6.

If you want to further lower the cost, you may consider RX560.

Unless some highly customised after maker options. Absolutely most RX580 should “just work”.

PULSE RX580 is actually on the Apple official support list.
