current setup:
oMP 4,1
1x 128GB SSD OS, APPS (filling up FAST, 6GB free)
1x 2TB 7200 Seagate I think (170GB free)
1x 2TB TM WD Green

I store the following:
- iPhoto library
- iTunes library
- several VmWare virtual machines
- app installers which I rarely use
- misc videos which I rarely use: music, documentaries, movies (not in iTunes)

I would like to purchase 1x 3TB drive but I'm torn as to what to get.
I would like it to be plugged in to one of the 4 bays.
Will an "older" model 7200 work okay?
Will I gain anything from a WD Black WD3003FZEX

The current storage drive would become my offsite backup drive using crashplan.

I'm not sure you should pay the premium of a Black series drive.

The standard WD/Hitachi & Seagate drives should do you.

Just have a good backup strategy…a backup of your backup.

"One is None. And Two is One." Basically have a Plan 'B' to start any endeavor.

I threw two WD Red 4TB drives in my Mac Pro 1,1 and put them in Raid 1. And I have been extremely pleased with their speed and reliability so far.
